JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Penn State Human Resources is seeking a self-motivated, positive, customer service oriented, and quality conscious individual to join their team as a Human Resources Assistant. In this role, you will be embedded in The Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State, supporting human resources operations and leading a team of administrative staff, student, and part time employees.
ARL is an integral part of one of the leading research universities in the nation and serves as a University Center of Excellence in Defense science, systems, and technologies with a focus in naval missions and related areas. As a DoD-designated, U.S. Navy UARC (University Affiliated Research Center), ARL maintains a long-term strategic relationship with the U.S. Navy and provides support for the other services. ARL is comprised of approximately 1,600 employees located at multiple locations throughout the United States.
For the ARL Human Resources Department, you will:
Interview, select, mentor, train, and direct the work of the ARL administrative staff, students, and part-time employees
Ensure that various forms such as career progressions, reclassifications, salary changes, and security role requests in Penn State systems as well as ARL-specific systems are processed; ensuring all memos and approvals are obtained and system updates are completed accurately and within deadlines
May assist with the onboarding process; maintain up-to-date records of actions, decisions, and timeframes
Assist the ARL Human Resources Strategic Partner and ARL Human Resources Consultants in the development of policies, procedures, programs, and surveys; collaborate with other ARL departments on various related topics
Assist ARL employees with the completion of various forms, answering inquiries and/or referring to Penn State Human Resources Services, ensuring compliance with Penn State, ARL, state, and federal requirements
Provide oversight and collaborate with ARL administrative staff on various ARL related events and projects
Assist with various ongoing human resources-related projects
Generate and review reports; update data/information and track changes
Minimum requirements include an Associate’s degree plus 4 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required skills/experience areas include:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
Agility in managing multiple priorities concurrently
Ability to resolve issues and prioritize work, both independently and as a team member
Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality
Success in an office environment, where various forms of communication and organizational skills were crucial to be effective
Preferred skills/experience areas include:
Workday or other Human Capital Management systems
Atlassian tools Confluence and Jira or other collaboration/project management/issue tracking software
Success in a human resources environment

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$42,100.00 - $61,000.00
