Job Summary
The Manager, Energy, Environment and Navigation is part of the Fleet Operations division that will deliver industry-leading standards of Marine Operations and The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection experience to our guests. This role is key to ensuring our systems and processes related to energy efficiency, environmental compliance, and navigation are developed, operated, and maintained to our exacting Gold Standards.
As a dynamic, hands-on marine leader with a high degree of business and IT acumen and excellent environmental and maritime knowledge, this role is the driving force behind building a sustainable, responsible, energy, environmental, and navigational management program.
Essential Functions
Training & People Development
Staffing the fleet and ensuring that our Environmental and Energy Efficiency Officers (E&EO) are trained and qualified to The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection standards.
Supporting and overseeing the E&EOs, undertaking line management in partnership with the captain.
Assist in developing and delivering energy and environment-related training addressing air emissions, fuel standards, refrigerant gases, and associated reporting requirements.
Ensure appropriate energy and environmental familiarization training and qualification standards are regularly updated for all our ladies and gentlemen.
Environmental Compliance
Contribute to defining the ESG strategy and own the operational execution.
Partner with our PMO and Optimization teams to develop and enhance fleet systems to ensure environmental compliance and capture environmental data.
As a subject matter expert for energy efficiency and environmental matters, assist with the continuous improvement and development of the safety management system.
Responsible for all external environmental reporting requirements, managing and compiling data and reports for MRV, DCS, FuelEU, FuelUK, etc.
Preparation and submission of environmental-related permit applications and reports.
Review, update, and provide environmental policies, procedures, and guidance for the fleet.
Owner of the Fleet Environmental Compliance Matrix, ensuring that a clear and RCYC-specific environmental matrix is maintained.
Monitoring environmental requirements and initiatives in our deployment regions and ports of call.
Manage and actively assist in the preparation, scheduling, follow-up, and closure of findings associated with internal and external audits and examinations addressing environmental issues.
Review and regularly update all stakeholders on international, Flag state, and Coastal State regulations regarding air emissions, fuel consumption, and refrigerant gases that are in effect, or will be coming into effect soon.
Energy Efficiency
Establishing and understanding an energy consumption baseline for the fleet.
Identify the most appropriate energy efficiency initiatives while maintaining the highest standards of guest experience.
Provide subject matter expertise to the ESG working group.
Incident Response & Investigations
Monitor and support the wider Marine Operations team with the response and investigation of environmental incidents or noncompliance.
Review and support environmental incident response equipment standardization, and ensure adequate drills and training.
Itinerary Review, optimization, and design
Partner with our Voyage Design team and work closely with our yacht nautical teams to design, review, and enhance our yachts' itineraries.
Ensuring final itineraries are accurate, navigationally safe, and environmentally compliant.
Responsible for the Marine Operations elements of the Voyage Design port and itinerary database, including fuel curves, fuel grades, distance tables and maritime port data.
Financial
Identifying and supporting energy efficiency and environmental capital investment projects and initiatives.
Responsible for accurate fuel consumption and fuel grade forecasting in partnership with the wider Marine Operations and finance teams.
Partnering with our finance team to budget for, forecast, and monitor emission trading schemes.
New build & Technical Projects
Partners with our New Build and Technical Projects teams to ensure that Marine Operations energy and environmental considerations are represented at all phases of the new build process and technical enhancements.
Oversees the Energy & Environmental related certification and documentation, as well as the owners' supply equipment to support the safe and compliant delivery and entry into service of all new vessels.
Competency
Education: Master Mariner Unlimited Degree or Diploma in Nautical Science
Skills & Experience:
3+ years of experience in a Marine Operations management role for a yacht or cruise ship owner/manager is preferred
5-10 years' experience in the maritime industry with a minimum of 3 years’ seagoing experience in a First Officer or Navigator role
Experience in a shore-based or shipboard environmental or energy efficiency role preferred
Excellent English language communication and presentation skills, strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Detailed knowledge of SOLAS, ISM, ISPS, MARPOL, and IGF Code operational and administrative responsibilities
Strong knowledge of international, national, and port-related maritime environmental and energy-related legislation
Excellent knowledge of worldwide and regional decarbonization initiatives and emission trading schemes
Deep knowledge of ship inspections, audits, surveys, and certificate administration
Excellent analytical problem-solving skills; can solve urgent, intricate, and mission-critical challenges, deal with emergencies, and manage multiple competing priorities. Knowledge of emergency preparedness, response, and contingency planning within the industry
Proficient skills in computer systems and programs, including MS Outlook, Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe
Ability to inspire colleagues and walk the extra mile to make things happen
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage change effectively.
Work Conditions
Ability to travel to the vessels and various offices
Acknowledge the on-call nature of maritime operations, with rare urgent cases requiring immediate support.
