Position Overview

As a Senior Automation Engineer, you will be responsible for the engineering, development, programming, documentation, and technical support of several standardized, mass-produced products. These integrated systems include components such as PLCs, HMIs, I/O devices, transformers, protective relays, surge arresters, metering systems, and traditional power distribution elements like circuit breakers, fuses, and bus conductors.

This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams at a manufacturing facility to ensure the accurate execution of engineered designs. Occasional travel to other manufacturing sites or client locations may be required to support product launches, technical support, and troubleshooting efforts.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the design and development of new power distribution and control products.

Develop, test, and maintain automation programs—whether created internally or supplied by clients.

Drive continuous improvement through innovative programming in areas such as design processes, automated testing, and data acquisition.

Collaborate with clients to enhance the integration and performance of their designs.

Create and support technical documentation in coordination with technical writing teams.

Provide troubleshooting and operational support for internal teams (production, field service) and external stakeholders (clients, end users).

Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and on-site technical personnel.

Required Skills & Competencies

Strong understanding of industrial communication protocols and network architectures (TCP/IP, Modbus).

Proficiency in automation and programming languages including VBA, C/C++, Python, PLC/ladder logic.

Experience with protective relays and industrial communication protocols (RS-232, RS-485).

Skilled in CAD software (AutoCAD preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple priorities effectively.

Self-motivated, collaborative, and adaptable with a strong sense of ownership.

Education & Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or 10+ years of relevant engineering experience.

In-depth knowledge of applicable standards including UL, CSA, CEC, NEC, and ANSI.

Practical experience in PLC programming, remote I/O, and HMI development within industrial environments.

Familiarity with NRTL evaluation and certification processes is a plus.

Mechanical aptitude and experience in manufacturing settings are strongly preferred.
