We are currently assisting our client, a leader in custom design/build turnkey automation systems, in their search for an Application Engineer (Estimator – Automation & Systems Integration) for their Browns Summit, NC location. This role is responsible for developing detailed and accurate cost estimates for complex industrial and automation projects. The estimator supports the quoting process, collaborates with technical and sales teams, and ensures profitable and competitive project proposals.
Location: Browns Summit, NC - 100% Onsite (not remote or hybrid). LOCAL CANDIDATES ONLY. Relocation assistance is not offered for this role at this time.
MUST HAVES:

Need Components Experience – Full System Automation
In House Desk Position - (This is not typically a good fit for a Project Engineer/Mechanical Engineer, but candidates by nature with this experience)
Requires deep understanding of mechanical and control system integration with the ability to visualize and conceptualize full machine builds from design intent.

Primary Responsibilities:
Prepare precise cost estimates for custom automation systems, machinery, and integration projects.
Partner with sales and technical teams to evaluate customer requirements and support pre-sales activities.
Generate documentation to support cost estimates, including concept descriptions and system requirements.
Participate in contract review meetings and support handoff to project execution teams.
Assist engineering in developing conceptual designs and layouts based on customer specifications.
Maintain strong communication with vendors, customers, and internal departments.
Continuously improve estimating tools, procedures, and methods to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Manage deadlines and prioritize workload effectively in a fast-paced project environment.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
Required Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in estimating, engineering, or technical project environments within manufacturing, automation, or custom machinery.
Key Skills & Competencies:
Strong technical understanding of automation systems, robotics, and mechanical/electrical integration
High attention to detail and accuracy in cost projections
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Strong time management and project coordination capabilities
Proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving
Comfortable engaging with customers, vendors, and multidisciplinary teams
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other common business tools
Familiarity with estimating software and industrial standards preferred
