My client is an International Freight forwarder specializing in providing comprehensive international shipping and logistics solutions. We are committed to delivering exceptional service to our clients through our extensive network and dedicated team.

About the Role: We are currently seeking a highly motivated Ocean Import Agent to join our team and manage the import of goods via ocean freight.

Responsibilities:

Shipment Coordination:

Manage the full ocean import process from origin to final destination.

Receive and process import documentation, including bills of lading, packing lists, commercial invoices, and customs documents.

Coordinate with shipping lines, carriers, and agents to arrange vessel bookings, track shipments, and monitor arrival times.

Prepare and submit customs entries and ensure compliance with all relevant import regulations and procedures (e.g., HMRC in the UK).

Arrange for the release of goods from customs and coordinate delivery to the customer's premises.

Documentation and Compliance:

Ensure all import documentation is accurate, complete, and compliant with relevant regulations.

Verify the accuracy of shipping documents against customer orders and resolve any discrepancies.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of customs tariffs, trade agreements, and import restrictions.

Prepare and file necessary documentation with customs authorities and other government agencies.

Communication and Customer Service:

Serve as the primary point of contact for customers regarding their ocean import shipments.

Provide timely and accurate updates to customers on shipment status, arrival dates, and any potential delays.

Respond to customer inquiries, resolve issues, and address any concerns in a professional and efficient manner.

Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, carriers, customs brokers, and other service providers.

Financial and Administrative Tasks:

Calculate and process import duties, taxes, and other charges.

Prepare and issue invoices to customers for services rendered.

Verify and approve vendor invoices (e.g., from shipping lines, hauliers).

Maintain accurate and organized shipment files and records.

Ensure profitability of each shipment by managing costs and optimizing processes.

Problem Solving and Issue Resolution:

Proactively identify and resolve any issues or delays that may arise during the import process (e.g., customs delays, port congestion, documentation errors).

Coordinate with relevant parties to find solutions and minimize any disruptions to the supply chain.

Handle claims for damaged or lost cargo, as necessary.

Qualifications: Proven experience (typically 2+ years) in ocean import operations within the freight forwarding or shipping industry. CargoWise Experience needed

Required Skills:

Solid understanding of ocean freight processes, import regulations, customs procedures, and documentation requirements.

Familiarity with Incoterms and their application to ocean shipments.

Experience with relevant industry software and systems (e.g., CargoWise, other freight management systems).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact effectively with customers, colleagues, and external parties.

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Preferred Skills:

Formal qualifications in freight forwarding, logistics, or a related field.

Knowledge of customs brokerage procedures.

Experience with specific customs software.

Strong negotiation skills.

A proactive and customer-focused approach.
