Sol Systems is seeking a Senior PV Engineer who will provide technical guidance during origination, interconnection, project development, pre-construction, financial closing, and construction for Distributed Generation (DG) and Utility Scale PV power plants across the United States. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with experience managing the technical scope of multiple concurrent projects, through many phases of the project lifecycle. This is a multi-faceted role that involves technical diligence, optimization and strategy, development engineering, and pre-construction support.

Key Responsibilities:
Support RFP responses by developing roofmount and Groundmount layouts, energy modeling, and technical diligence of the scope of work
Estimate interconnection upgrade scope and costs from origination through construction
Conduct site visits in support of project origination, development, and construction.
Manage a portfolio of DG interconnection applications from initial submission through interconnection approval and modification processes
Develop interconnection application drawings including layouts, single line and three-line diagrams
Review interconnection studies and upgrade estimates to track project scope, schedule, and budget risks
Support/Lead utility negotiations on interconnection study results and upgrades scope
Perform site visits for project development, constructability, and interconnection feasibility
Maintain working knowledge of the top relevant utility tariffs and technical standards for interconnection
Develop and continually update internal design drawings reflecting changes to layouts, system size, or general project scope
Develop and optimize PV layouts in Helioscope, AutoCAD, and other GIS tools
Perform energy modeling with PVsyst to ensure production targets are optimized and meet financial goals.
Provide support and management of technical aspects of the project development process, including permitting, interconnection, communications, environmental, topographical, geotechnical, etc.
Develop designs and oversee design development by consulting engineers to ensure the PV system meets industry standards and aligns with commercial targets.
Source and manage external consultants and partners, including developing Scope of Work documents, managing RFP process, and controlling scope and schedule to obtain similar deliverables.
Maintain working knowledge of common DG technical requirements, design guidelines, and equipment (inverters, racking/trackers) for rooftop and ground mount systems
A successful candidate will possess the following skills and attributes:
B.S. in Engineering
2+ years of experience in DG PV system design and engineering required
1+ years of experience in Utility Scale PV system design and engineering preferred
5 years minimum total engineering experience in renewable energy preferred
Familiarity with PV construction practices for DG and utility scale PV systems
Able to travel approximately 15% of the time, as required by projects
Strong understanding of energy modeling with PVsyst, and capability to advise internal and external stakeholders to achieve agreeable and achievable production targets
Experienced in managing 3rd party engineering consultants to perform engineering studies and designs.
Experienced in working with 3rd party Independent Engineering firms
Strong communication skills and ability to lead technical discussions among electric utilities, consultants, EPC’s, and internal stakeholders
Able to read and interpret building architectural, civil, structural, and electrical drawings
Experience with distribution level interconnection processes behind and front of the meter (BTM and FTM) in at least one of the following: CA, IL, MD, NJ, NY
EIT certification preferred
Working knowledge of industry standard design codes such as National Electric Code (NEC), IEEE 1547
PVsyst Energy modeling proficiency required
AutoCAD software design proficiency required
Location: This position is based in our Washington, DC office. We operate a hybrid work schedule.
