Job Title: Civil Engineering Technician
Location: Columbus, Ohio (Open to Entry-Level and Experienced Candidates)
Salary Range: $85,000 – $115,000 (commensurate with experience)
About the Role:
Our client, a respected design-build contractor headquartered in Columbus, Ohio, is seeking a Civil Engineering Technician to support preconstruction and project execution efforts for large-scale industrial and commercial developments. This role plays a critical part in surveying land, analyzing site conditions, performing cut-and-fill balancing, and contributing to early-stage site logistics and planning.
The ideal candidate will have experience in earthwork, surveying, and site evaluation—especially those with a background in heavy civil or grading-focused projects. This is a great opportunity for someone looking to join a collaborative and growing team that values technical expertise and career development.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct initial site analysis and field surveying, including drone flights to capture topographic and site condition data
Use AGTEK software to perform detailed cut-and-fill analysis, support balancing efforts, and estimate earthwork quantities
Collaborate with the estimating and preconstruction teams to provide insights for conceptual site planning and logistics
Occasionally develop conceptual AutoCAD drawings (precision not critical) for early design and layout purposes
Support permitting coordination, geotechnical investigation planning, utility locates, and coordination of third-party consultants
Assist with subcontractor scopes, logistics plans, and quality assurance checks throughout the construction lifecycle
Participate in change order tracking, schedule updates, and project closeout processes
What We're Looking For:
Degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field — or equivalent field experience
Prior experience in earthwork, grading, or heavy civil construction is a strong plus
Proficiency in AGTEK software for modeling and analysis is required
Experience flying drones (or willingness to be trained) for site data collection
Familiarity with AutoCAD for basic conceptual drawings
Ability to interpret civil drawings, perform technical analysis, and communicate findings to both field and office teams
Strong attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and a collaborative mindset
OSHA 30, drone certification, or surveying certifications are a plus
Why You Should Apply:
Be part of a highly regarded and forward-thinking construction firm
Work on complex and meaningful industrial and commercial projects
Gain exposure across engineering, estimating, surveying, and construction
Clear opportunity for career growth with mentorship and cross-training
Relocation assistance available for qualified candidates
