Role Overview

They are looking for an experienced individual for the role of The Sr. Director, Process Safety. This individual will play a key role in leading the health, safety, and environmental programs and team in order to reduce accidents and other injuries that are related to work. This individual will design and monitor safety programs using industry best practices that meet regulatory requirements and support a proactive safety culture where employees are safe and feel comfortable to voice their concerns. This individual should be knowledgeable, creative, industrious, and communicative, able to hold the line while supporting innovation in a new facility at our Houston location. This is a brand-new build opportunity, and this individual will be able to set the standards for a new industry offshoot, applying their knowledge of process safety to new systems involving chemical reactors, combustion devices, purifiers, and ammonia-powered fuel cells with presence of ammonia and hydrogen.

Reporting to the VP, Operations, and in cross-functional partnership and collaboration with Engineering and Facilities, this individual and their team will ensure adequate layers of protection, risk controls, and effective mitigation are in place.

Role Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and oversees policies, programs, emergency response, evacuation plans and other activities related to Process Safety Management (PSM), Risk Reduction, Incident Prevention, as well as regulatory compliance (e.g., OSHA); provide interpretation of industry and engineering standards related to process safety.

• Oversee major EHS programs (e.g., Safety for General Industry ammonia and hydrogen, Air & Water/Wastewater compliance, Waste Management, PSM/RMP, DOT, EPCRA, etc.) for assigned facility.

• Perform functional safety assessments (FSAs) and other EHS audits for the Houston and Brooklyn facilities; make recommendations to remediate issues and report out results.

• Collaborate with technology groups safety requirements specification (SRS) and safety instrumented system (SIS) documentation for their powerpack modules; review engineering deliverables, documentation, and testing results to ensure consistency with SRS.

• Provide information and guidance to project and design teams regarding process safety requirements. • Collaborate with technology groups in the development, implementation, review, and sustainability of engineering standards and technical guidelines.

• Works to ensure that policies, programs, training materials, procedures and tools are in place and effective to protect the health, safety of site personnel, neighboring communities and maintain compliance with applicable national, state and local laws.

• Responsible for leadership and consultation to conduct PHAs and PHA revalidation's (Process Hazard Analysis), including HAZOP/LOPA studies and produce reporting documentation.

• Act as a safety liaison with local regulatory bodies, emergency response teams, and key stakeholders.

• Manage the Safety Team, including EHS group.

Role Requirements

• BS degree required in related safety or engineering field; Masters preferred

• 10-plus years of experience in chemical/refining/manufacturing/similar industry

• 5-plus years of people management experience

• Expert knowledge and understanding of process and occupational safety principles and their applications

• Experience in crafting process and procedures, not just maintaining them

• Extensive background on OSHA 1910 and the principles that apply to occupational safety • Experience with industry codes and standards for functional safety, chemical processes, burner management systems, and power generation and distribution (e.g., NFPA, API, IEC, ISA, OSHA, EPA etc.) involving ammonia and/or hydrogen
