Job Summary:
We are seeking a Principal Embedded Firmware Engineer to lead and contribute directly to the development of firmware and software for advanced medical devices. This role involves project planning, risk analysis, and making trade-off decisions considering technical, resource, and business metrics such as cost, performance, schedule, quality, and reliability. The ideal candidate will have experience in safety-critical applications, preferably within the medical device industry, and a strong background in embedded systems design.
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership: Serve as the technical leader for projects, mentoring team members, motivating teams, and fostering a collaborative environment.
Project Execution: Lead project execution strategies, considering risk factors, and recommend new technologies and best practices for project success.
Firmware Development: Design, develop, and maintain embedded firmware for advanced medical devices, ensuring compliance with relevant standards such as IEC 62304.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software, electrical, and mechanical engineers, to ensure high-quality and on-time product introductions.
Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all firmware development activities comply with medical device regulations and standards, including FDA guidelines and ISO 13485 quality systems.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience: Over 15 years of experience in embedded firmware development, with at least 10 years in a requirements-driven structured development process.
Technical Skills: Proficiency in C/C++ programming languages, experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS), and familiarity with microcontroller architectures such as ARM Cortex.
Medical Device Expertise: Experience in developing firmware for medical devices, with a strong understanding of safety-critical applications and regulatory standards.
Leadership Abilities: Demonstrated experience in leading projects from conception to completion, mentoring team members, and fostering a collaborative work environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced Degree: Advanced degree in a relevant field.
Certifications: PMP (Project Management Professional) or similar project management certification.
Tools Proficiency: Experience with software development tools such as Jira, BitBucket, Git/GitHub, and familiarity with static analysis and unit testing methodologies.
