Summary
Responsible for but not limited to setting-up/operating assigned machinery. The Set-up machinist ensures that the machine runs smoothly, is maintained and user-friendly (instructions are clear and concise) for operators to understand. The essential role of a Set-up machinist is to set up production machines, following prints and specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Use drawings (blueprints), specs and instructions to set-up or operate CNC Machinery.
Document processes pertaining to running and/or improvements made to set up or operate machines.
Sustain a safe, efficient, and clean work environment.
Responsible for the general maintenance and clean-up of the shop.
Troubleshoot and resolve problems involving tooling, materials, programs, equipment, and part specifications.
Identify and recommend changes to part specifications to improve machine ability.
Perform other job-related duties.
Qualifications and Skills
Must be able up to lift 50 lbs.
Basic math, writing and computer skills.
Must be able to set up/run multiple machines.
Must be able to read prints e.g., able to interpret and translate engineering designs and documentation.
Be able to inspect their own parts and be proficient with inspection tools.
Education / Experience
Minimum 5 years of vertical mill setup experience (Preferably HAAS, or FANUC Controls), machining certification OR completion of a full apprenticeship program.
