Under the direct supervision of the Guest Services Supervisor, the Depot Attendant is responsible for supervising and engaging children in a safe, clean, and fun environment while parents or guardians are utilizing the Recreation and Wellness Center. The position includes providing care for children, ensuring their safety, and facilitating various age-appropriate activities. The Depot Attendant will be expected to demonstrate excellent communication skills with both children and parents, maintaining a positive, supportive atmosphere.
Essential Functions of Work
Supervise and interact with children in The Depot area, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
Facilitate age-appropriate activities such as games, arts and crafts, reading, and other educational and recreational opportunities.
Maintain a clean and organized environment, including sanitizing toys, play areas, and equipment daily and weekly on regular schedule.
Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding their child's experience, including any issues or special needs.
Monitor children for any signs of distress or discomfort, and respond appropriately to their needs.
Enforce safety rules and regulations, ensuring that all children are following guidelines and playing safely.
Help manage behavioral issues in a calm, positive manner, and provide guidance as needed.
Supervise children with any personal needs, such as restroom use or snack breaks, in a respectful and appropriate manner.
Maintain accurate records of children’s attendance, allergies, and emergency contacts as .
Respond promptly to emergencies, and provide first aid if necessary, while following established procedures.
Provide a positive, welcoming, and supportive environment for children and parents.
Perform other related duties as assigned by the Recreation Coordinators, Recreation Supervisors, Recreation Program Managers, Deputy Director of
Recreation and Parks, or the Director of Recreation and Parks or their designee.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of child development and age-appropriate activities, behavior, and needs.
Ability to communicate effectively with both children and adults.
Ability to handle multiple children of different ages and abilities while managing a variety of tasks at once while maintaining safety.
Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
Ability to remain calm and respond to emergencies in a composed and effective manner.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Typical Qualifications
16 years of age or older.
Possession of or ability to obtain American Red Cross Lifeguarding/CPR/First Aid/AED certification.
Previous experience working with children in a childcare or recreational setting is preferred.
A background free of prior felony convictions.
Regular and punctual attendance is regarded as an essential requirement of this position.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays.
