Job Description

The Captain of the SSV Makani Olu and Instructor for the Maritime Career Exploration (MCE) Program is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and leadership aboard the Makani Olu, a sailing training vessel used for maritime education. This role also includes teaching maritime skills and seamanship as part of the MCE Program, mentoring students in maritime career pathways, and promoting ocean stewardship in alignment with traditional and modern maritime practices.

Qualifications:

100 Ton Near Coastal License (REQUIRED)

Auxiliary Sail Endorsement (REQUIRED)

Strong Teaching Skills

Mechanical Knowledge

Experience sailing in Hawaiian waters

Responsibilities:

Safely operate and navigate the vessel

Teach sailing and navigation to aspiring mariners

Perform mechanical maintenance and repairs

Ensure the safety of passengers and crew
