Job Description

Sigmatech is seeking an XR Software Developer Intern (Augmented Reality, Virtual Reality, Mixed Reality) who understands 3D environments to support National Security Space Institute (NSSI) personnel in developing VR, AR, MR, and Simulation-based applications.

Sigmatech is looking for a college-level student for an eight-week paid internship. This internship is a paid position with an hourly rate of $20/hour. It will start no earlier than June 2nd, 2025, and end no later than August 29th, 2025. The hours worked per week for this internship are not to exceed 30 hours.

This XR intern will work directly with the Senior XR Software Engineer to support the Digital Learning Team and Sigmatech Technical Solutions Group. This role will support development by creating and enhancing XR experiences. They will also work with the Digital Learning team to support classroom Instructors, Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Instructional System Designers (ISDs), and project managers in creating and enhancing new AR/VR experiences.

This role will also include opportunities to work on traditional computer-based training and education games. While the primary focus of the internship is on extended reality (XR) development—including virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and mixed reality (MR)—interns may also gain hands-on experience contributing to desktop or phone-based game projects.

Candidates are responsible for their transportation, housing, and meals. This in-person internship is based at our Colorado Springs, CO office, and no relocation or housing assistance is provided.

This individual must be highly motivated to learn and demonstrate the ability to work independently and in a team environment. Candidates must present demonstrated experience with Unity and/or Unreal for consideration.

Role & Responsibility:

Architect, develop, deploy, and maintain features for AR/VR/MR applications

Passion for innovating, asking questions, and learning more

Design, build, and maintain efficient, reusable, and reliable code

Collaborate with Digital Learning team

Communicate with project customers and end users

Develop innovative solutions in support of advanced visualization projects and prototypes

Requirements & Qualifications:

Must be a U.S. citizen

Some experience in Unity/Unreal, 3D game creation, and 2D game creation

Some experience developing interactive applications for virtual reality and/or mixed reality

Desire to learn and work with VR/AR devices

Some proficiency with C# programming for interactive graphics or gaming

Working knowledge of programming languages or desire to learn

Knowledge of 3D modeling software, no practical experience required (Autodesk 3DS Max, Blender, Maya, etc.)

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Education Required

High School Degree

Currently in pursuit or recent graduate of a relevant Bachelor's degree

Applicants must be enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant undergraduate program. Junior or Senior-level students are preferred, though other candidates with demonstrated experience will also be considered.
