Job Description

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Assistant Teaching Professor is a full-time, 10-month, non-tenure-track position. Primary teaching responsibilities will be in the First-Year Writing Program with opportunities to teach in the Public and Professional Writing major/minor as appropriate. Teaching load is 4/4. Additionally, teaching faculty have a service requirement to be fulfilled within the department, college, and/or university. Writing Studies faculty are a diverse group of writers, educators, professionals, and artists who are committed to the teaching of writing and critical thinking to the students of Montclair State University. The Writing Studies Department fosters the diversity of students’ interests across disciplines as well as the interdisciplinary nature of the field itself.

Position is a two-year, ten-month, non-tenure track appointment, with eligibility for reappointment based on established NTTP procedures.

THE COLLEGE OF HUMANITIES AND SOCIAL SCIENCES

The College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHSS) is the University’s largest academic unit with over 5,000 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students. CHSS awards BA, MA, and PhD degrees through its 16 departments and 9 programs with over 30 majors and 50 minors. Offering traditional and interdisciplinary learning, the College is home to outstanding researchers across all disciplines while its faculty are also superb classroom instructors. Qualifications:

MA, MFA, PhD in Writing required (including technical communication; rhetorical studies; professional writing; or various genres of creative writing) or related fields; terminal degree (MFA; PhD) strongly preferred. Candidates with MA must have completed significant graduate coursework and/or professional development in writing pedagogy.

Record of success teaching first-year writing in a diverse environment; minimum three years experience.

SALARY RANGE Commensurate with experience
