Sonnen seeks to hire an Electrical System Engineer who will collaborate on the development and continuous improvement of the Energy Storage Systems, from concept through product introduction. Based on our Atlanta Innovation Hub, an ideal candidate for this position is a skilled individual with demonstrated knowledge in the design of power conversion systems and electrical power systems with additional experience in Lithium-Ion-Batteries.
Responsibilities
Develop Energy Storage Systems for the US and international Market applied to residential markets
Translate market requirements into electrical design features as part of Life-cycle management of existing products
Develop electrical and control system designs able to address all critical aspects related to design from the functional, operational, and power handling capabilities specified by the target application
Responsible for the management of all relevant ECAD data and design documentation during the development of new products
Perform electrical design, design review, component characterization, component selection, wire sizing, component sourcing
Collaborate with the system integration team in the evolution of existing product lines by enhancing and/or improving existing features
Perform relevant testing and validation of each critical component and fully assembled systems to ensure proper thermal management, power handling, control and structural integrity
Evaluate, test, and approve all critical electrical components
Collaborate in simulation modelling and analysis during the investigation of new features considered for implementation
Support internal trainings or information sessions about project work or new ideas
Effectively collaborate with the manufacturing team on necessary documentation required for design changes and new product introduction

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
Minimum 2 years of experience
Proven track record in the development of electrical systems design & integration including but not limited to power conversion products, power systems and control equipment
Familiar with LiFePO4 battery, Battery Management System, and its integration in ESS (Preferred)
General understanding of embedded system architecture and high-level programming languages such as C/C++
Experience in control hardware development including relays, fuses, contactors, circuit breakers, maintaining proper spacing and wire sizing, communication hardware, and wiring and termination practices
Experienced in using ECAD suites (Preferably Solidworks Electrical) and version Control best practices
Comfortable working with low voltage AC 240-480v power systems and DC 100-600V power systems
Experience with the conduction of functional simulation using SPICE tools and Matlab.
Experienced in the construction of engineering documentation such as schematics, wire drawings, Bill of Material, Test plans, etc.
Basic understanding with Product Certification Process (UL, CSA, FCC, etc.)
Experience in Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
Experience in performing Failure Mode Effect Analysis (FMEA), preferred
Strong communication skills in English
Understand critical aspects relevant to projects dealing with large amount of electrical power confined in compact enclosures. Maintain proper spacing guidelines for safety and reliability contrasted by reducing material and size for increased cost advantage
Strong interest and openness for working in an international / intercultural company
Able and willing to travel 1-2 times a year (international)
Must have a strong sense of development ownership, responsibility and working commitment
