The role

As a Risk Specialist in the Credit Risk Team, you will be responsible for identifying, analysing and escalating key and emerging credit risks at individual regulated entities, and across the system more broadly.

You will be a subject matter expert and will deliver high quality insights grounded in sound judgement and analysis to inform and influence key internal and external stakeholders.

You will lead a wide variety of key entity engagements and reviews across a cross-section of Authorised Deposit-Taking Institutions, including banks, building society and credit unions – leveraging colleagues across APRA, including in front-line supervision, risk teams and policy.

The team

The Credit Risk Team is part of the Financial Risk Branch within the Cross-Industry Risk Division (CRD). CRD brings together risk and system specialists who collaborate with frontline in supervising entities and play a key role in identifying risks and trends across industries and the financial system as a whole.

Key responsibilities

Critically analyse regulated entities’ credit risk management and asset quality, to effectively identify and escalate key and emerging risks at both an individual entity, and across the financial system;

Lead key engagements with regulated entities. This would include leading on-site prudential reviews of individual entities, conducting broader thematic reviews of industry practice and a regular cadence of engagements with entities and review of key management documents / data;

Communicate key concerns and better practice insights to a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, including senior executives at the regulated entity, front-line supervision teams, other risk teams and colleagues in APRA’s policy and enforcement teams;

Collaborate effectively with peer domestic and international regulators on key areas of common interest; and

Build and contribute to APRA’s collective knowledge on issues impacting credit risk profiles within the Australian financial system.

About you

Substantial experience in credit risk decisioning / management and financial analysis. Familiarity with non-retail credit risk management and / or products is desirable;

Strong understanding of the regulatory standards and requirements for lending and credit risk management;

Excellent written communication skills, with an ability to translate detailed and technical points into succinct insights that can be used to inform a broad range of stakeholders, and to influence risk management outcomes in the industry;

Strong interpersonal skills for effectively engaging with stakeholders at all levels, both internally and externally;

Demonstrated organisation, time management and prioritisation skills;

Commitment to working in a collaborative team environment;

Qualifications in a finance-related discipline are desirable.
