The Centralized Scheduling Clerk is responsible for collecting patient information for system entry; and scheduling patient appointments in provider offices, outpatient hospital exams, and procedures.

Duties/Responsibilities:

Answers phone calls in an efficient and timely manner.

Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records and documentation timely.

Completes telephone messages with appropriate documentation and returns messages.

Obtains all required patient demographic and financial information.

Coordinates and schedules outpatient tests/treatments requested by physician offices and/or patients.

Pre-registers outpatient accounts for scheduled patients.

Provides written and verbal instructions to patients and families in basic procedure preparations and directions.

Ensures patients are directed to their appropriate registration and test/treatment destination.

Meets established productivity standards of 95% or higher.

Cross trains in Registration, Ambulatory, and Outpatient Hospital Exams/Procedures.

Possesses a basic knowledge of all clinical departments and their terminology as it applies to scheduling.

Education:

High school graduate or equivalent required.

Experience:

Minimum of two years of experience in a medical setting required. Completing patient scheduling, registration, billing, financial counseling, or unit secretary functions preferred.
