Mechanical Technician

Location: Bartonville/ Peoria, IL

Department: Maintenance - Wire Mill

Hourly Wage: $27.00-$35.00/hour + OT Opportunities

Schedule: Full-time Must be available for various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Join our team as Mechanical Technician!

Are you a skilled mechanical troubleshooter with a passion for keeping things running smoothly? Do you have experience repairing complex machinery in a heavy industrial setting? If so, we want YOU on our team!

What You'll Do:

Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical systems on rod mill machinery including rod blocks, cooling beds, shears, coilers, straighteners, roughing mills, finishing mills, laying heads, pinch rolls, and conveyors.

Perform comprehensive preventive maintenance activities including cleaning, lubrication, calibration, and scheduled overhauls.

Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems using advanced diagnostic tools such as oscilloscopes, PLC analyzers, thermal imaging devices, and ultrasound detectors.

Rebuild and refurbish major components such as bearings, gears, pumps, motors, drives, rollers, couplings, spindles, and hydraulic actuators.

Maintain detailed maintenance records, including work orders, preventive maintenance logs, and reliability improvement initiatives.

Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance planning teams to optimize maintenance schedules and enhance process reliability.

Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.

Participate in continuous improvement projects aimed at increasing machine availability and reducing maintenance costs.

Assist in training and mentoring junior maintenance personnel. What We're Looking For:

Experience: Minimum 5+ years of industrial machine repair experience, ideally in a rod mill or heavy industrial setting.

Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical school/apprenticeship preferred.

Skills:

Expert knowledge in diagnosing and repairing complex mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.

Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and maintenance manuals

Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies and tools.

Welding, machining, or millwright certification preferred

Strong communication skills and team-focused mindset

Mindset: Independent problem-solver with commitment to a safety-first mindset and adherence to LOTO, confined space, and PPE standards.
