Mechanical Technician

Location: Bartonville/ Peoria, IL

Department: Maintenance - Rod Mill

Hourly Wage: $27.00-$35.00/hour + OT Opportunities

Schedule: Full-time Must be available for various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Join our team as Mechanical Technician!

Are you a skilled mechanical troubleshooter with a passion for keeping things running smoothly? Do you have experience repairing complex machinery in a heavy industrial setting? If so, we want YOU on our team!

What You'll Do:

Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical systems on rod mill equipment including rod blocks, cooling beds, shears, coilers, straighteners, roughing mills, finishing mills, laying heads, pinch rolls, and conveyors.

Perform comprehensive preventive maintenance tasks such as cleaning, lubrication, calibration, and scheduled overhauls.

Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems using diagnostic tools like oscilloscopes, PLC analyzers, thermal imaging, and ultrasonic detectors.

Rebuild and refurbish components including bearings, gears, motors, pumps, rollers, spindles, drives, couplings, and hydraulic actuators.

Maintain accurate maintenance records including work orders, PM logs, and RCA documentation.

Collaborate with engineering, operations, and planning teams to streamline maintenance processes and improve equipment reliability.

Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) and implement long-term corrective actions.

Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.

Mentor and train junior maintenance staff as needed. What We're Looking For:

Experience: Minimum 5+ years of industrial machine repair experience, ideally in a rod mill or heavy industrial setting.

Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical school/apprenticeship preferred.

Skills:

Expert knowledge in mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems

Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and maintenance manuals

Familiarity with predictive maintenance technologies and tools.

Welding, machining, or electrical certification preferred

Strong communication skills and team-focused mindset

Mindset: Independent problem-solver with commitment to a safety-first mindset and adherence to LOTO, confined space, and PPE standards.
