Summary/objective

The Executive Director/Principal is the leader ultimately responsible for the school’s academic, operational, financial success. The Executive Director/Principal directly supervises the school leadership team and is the primary point of contact with the school’s governing board and key external partners, such as the Oklahoma State Department of Education and charter school authorizer.

A listing of specific duties to be performed by the Executive Director/Principal includes:

District Leadership:

Responsible for implementing the mission, vision, and educational program approved by the Board of Directors of W.K Jackson Leadership Academy.

The Executive Director/Principal shall manage coaching and development of all staff members in the organization, including performance planning, goal setting and weekly check-ins.

Responsible for ensuring the proper fiscal management of public funds, that the expenditure of public funds is in accordance with applicable law and policies, and that accurate financial reports are presented to the districts’ boards of directors.

Ensure the timely and accurate submission of reports to the State Department of Education for the District. Ensure compliance with any applicable laws, regulations, and rules pertaining to public charter schools. Also ensure compliance with the terms of the charter agreements with the school authorizer.

Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all federal and state programs.

Ensure that all public accounts are audited each year and file said audit with all agencies and offices required by law.

Responsible for the fiscal management of the district, which may include, but is not limited to, the preparation of a well-coordinated budget.

Ability to engage with all stakeholders and build strong relationships with the broader community.

Ensure that the school aggressively pursues all available revenue, receivables, and cost savings.

Responsible for developing a three- or five-year strategic plan for the school district

Instructional Leadership:

The Executive Director/Principal is the leader of the building staff and articulates a clear and compelling vision founded in strong and sustainable student achievement outcomes.

Manages personnel effectively through appropriate delegation, planning, and evaluation.

Fosters an environment where support staff and faculty work cooperatively together and hold each other accountable to reach high levels of student achievement.

Effectively evaluate and manage all staff in the area of academic performance.

Provides ongoing professional development for staff, based on an analysis of school building data, best practices and instructional research.

Models and promotes the continuous use of data to inform practice and drive decision making and instruction.

Manages school resources (fiscal, human capital, facilities and equipment, etc.) to support student achievement goals and in compliance with policies.

Fosters a positive school climate by assessing, planning, and communicating with the school community which includes regular updates to the school’s website and newsletters to the parents.

Curriculum – Design and development of high-level curriculum design and innovative instructional methods. This includes but is not limited to helping to create curriculum methodologies, developing and approving a common language surrounding instructional policies and procedures, adopting research-proven theories of instructional practice, advising and approving curriculum technology, and supporting teachers in implementing these curricula goals with instructional methods and support systems.

Compliance – Accountability & Assessment to manage and support the school leadership through school compliance issues and reviews. This includes interpreting student data and creating appropriate action plans. ED/Principal and staff will also work closely with Special Education team members to ensure proper special education services as required by law.

School Culture working with all staff to ensure that the school’s missions, core values, and vision are implemented and acted upon by students, teachers, and staff. This includes but is not limited to working and creating a common language around the school culture, helping to field questions and complaints, and conducting and assisting with student transfer, expulsion, and IEP meetings.

Professional Development <25%

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s Degree required Master’s Degree is preferred

Experienced strategic thinker with a minimum of three - five years of experience in the field of education

Management experience, preferably of teachers and other school staff

Excellent written, oral, and people skills. Excel at presentations, public speaking, relationship building, and networking.

Comfort with working in a fast-paced, non-profit environment

Detail- and results-oriented team player who is dedicated to getting the job done

Initiative and leadership skills

Unquestioned integrity and commitment to the school's mission
