Automation Process Controls Engineer - Chemicals - Allen Bradley - Chicago suburbs

Our client, a global leader in industrial gases and engineering equipment has an immediate opening for an Automation Process Controls Engineer to support production facilities in the US. The position will be based out of their Regional HQ location in the western suburbs and will be responsible for the support of process control and monitoring systems for air separation facilities for on-site facilities throughout the US.

Ideal candidate will possess a basic understanding of a chemical continuous or batch production process, proficiency with process control content of P&I diagrams and working knowledge of schematic wiring diagrams, primary instrumentation background with experience with control system electrical and instrumentation components (valves, analyzers, field sensors, control panels, etc.). Experience with Allen Bradley software required.

The position will require some small to medium size control system project execution as well. While providing this primary support, the process control engineer will interface with a variety of field, management, and technical personnel.

This role will have off-hours support as necessary to resolve issues during non-working hours and holidays with 10-25% travel the norm and will includes tasks such as training, troubleshooting, supporting various environmental regulations & reports, root cause analysis, and preventative/corrective maintenance focusing on all areas of the advanced control system.

Requirements:

Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.

3+ years of process controls/instrumentation/production experience.

Basic understanding of a continuous or batch chemical production process

Practical application experience with the Allen-Bradley control system product line (e. g. PLC5, SLC500, CompactLogix, ControlLogix, PanelView, etc.)

Proficiency with process control content of Process & Instrumentation diagrams (P&ID)

Working knowledge and experience with control system electrical and instrumentation components (e. g. valves, analyzers, field sensors, control panels, etc.)

Proficiency with Schematic Wiring Diagrams (SWD)

Background with control system support and maintenance of PLC based systems for real time operations.

Advanced process troubleshooting experience.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Practical application experience with the GE HMI Suite (e. g. iFix, Workspace, etc.)

Practical Networking experience including LAN/WAN/Router configuration background.

Able to travel overnight - 10-20% and some off-hours support.
