Summary:

As the Policy Specialist for our Alaska Operation, you are responsible for tracking sustainability certifications, monitoring and influencing fisheries management decisions, and representing the company within key trade organizations. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, knowledgeable about fisheries policy and regulatory frameworks, and skilled in industry engagement.

Key Responsibilities:

Attend and represent Pacific Seafood at government and industry meetings as assigned, most notably the Pacific Fisheries Management Council (PFMC)

Represent Pacific Seafood’s legislative and policy agendas to local, state, and federal officials and staff

Research, analyze, and monitor issues, developments, and situations within and/or related to assigned area(s) of responsibility

Draft and/or coordinate development of documents, papers, reports, presentations, etc. within assigned area(s) of responsibility and/or related areas of interest

Prepare issue summaries, analyses, and other written information as requested or assigned, or as necessary to adequately inform Pacific Seafood’s strategic posture and objectives

Work collaboratively with other companies, interest groups, organizations, offices, agencies, and individuals to build coalitions that advance Pacific Seafood’s policy initiatives, strategic objectives, and access to resource

Build and maintain relationships with government officials, industry participants, non-profit representations, and other relevant stakeholder groups.

Work closely with company lawyers, economists, policy advisors, and operational personnel to develop information, obtain clarification of divergent viewpoints, build consensus, and advise supervisors as to appropriate strategy within assigned area(s) of responsibility

Ensure effective communication of policy objectives, strategies, and developments to internal and external stakeholders

Promote accurate and positive communications about Pacific Seafood and its policy objectives

Raise awareness and support for Pacific Seafood across all levels of industry, government, non-profits, and other relevant stakeholders

Offer insight into other, related policy areas as assigned or requested

Participate in meetings and other public speaking events

Perform other duties, as assigned.

What you Bring to Pacific Seafood:

Required:

Minimum 2 years’ professional experience in state and/or federal fisheries policy

Minimum 2 years’ experience attending and participating in PFMC and/or other federal fisheries councils

Understanding of Alaska policies for fisheries.

Preferred:

Experience preventing and/or passing regulations at PFMC or other federal fisheries councils

Lobbying experience at local, state, and/or federal level

Experience managing projects involving diverse interest groups to achieve measurable goals and objectives

Experience giving public testimony and other advocacy presentations

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent experience

Salary Range: $96,500 - $112,500 annually
