Job purpose

Shop Helpers are responsible for helping various departments. This includes material handling, quality control, brazing, electrical and warehouse. They are also responsible for supporting leads and supervisor where needed.

Duties and responsibilities

A shop Helper reviews and follows instructions, diagrams and blueprints to complete his or her task. He or she might use a combination of any number of tools, including basic tools like hammers, wrenches, cutters, clamps, calipers, pliers, templates, molds, or brazing equipment and other electric- or gas-powered machines. He or she might also be responsible for testing and charging units, as well as cleaning up work areas where he or she uses them.

Qualifications

A shop Helper must have excellent vision, coordination and dexterity to deal with handling and manipulating materials and parts. As team assembly jobs can involve high stress, deadline-influenced projects, repetitive work and long periods of sitting, standing, bending, twisting or lifting, he or she also needs mental and physical stamina and strength.

Working conditions

The job requires a person to work from regular evening and weekend work, shift work, working outdoors, collaborating with challenging clients, and so forth.

Physical requirements

Shop Helpers are required to wear safety gear, such as safety glasses, gloves, hard hat, leather shoes, short, long-sleeved clothing or coveralls, flame-resistant clothing if required, a respirator mask or ear plugs. Depending on the materials and equipment involved, team assemblers might experience exposure to loud noise or hazardous fumes, chemicals, oils or particles from various sources, fiberglass, burning plastics, metal filings, sawdust, paint, or industrial cleaners.
