Position Summary:
The Supervising Physical Therapist is directly responsible to the Director, or their designee, and has the responsibility for the overall direction, utilization, supervision, instruction, and evaluation of professional and supportive staff, volunteers, and students utilized in the facility. Also, he/she is responsible for the development, implementation and monitoring of all patient care programs, plans for providing care, performance improvement programs, policies and procedures, maintaining adequate qualified and competent personnel, adequate space and equipment to ensure a high degree of quality patient care. Manager will communicate needs of staff and clinic directly with Director of department.

Attend department, clinic or company meetings as required

Supervision - to supervise the activities of the entire facility including:
Scheduling patients for treatment and evaluation
Preparation of reports and records by facility personnel
Use of volunteers who may assist in the facility
Staff and Student Physical Therapist /Physical Therapist Assistant training program
Evaluations
To be responsible for the evaluation of all patients referred for Physical Therapy
To be responsible for completion and submission of all reports pertaining to the evaluation
To see that all referral sources are advised of facility action with the case referred
Treatment
To practice Physical Therapy consistent with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice
To maintain a patient treatment schedule consistent with the needs of the facility
To confer with the person(s) most closely associated with the active management of the patient and to keep them information of any additional patient needs, treatment modification, and/or progress
To treat patients and function as a Staff Physical Therapist as necessary
Respects and understands the patient's right to treatment and right to involvement in treatment decisions
Practices ethical responsibility based on the cultural, ethnic and religious beliefs of the patients served a applicable law
Records and Reports
To be responsible for the preparation and submitting of facility reports, assuring confidentiality of all records, including
Evaluation reports/summaries
Discharge reports/summaries
Progress reports to referring physicians and agencies
Current progress notes on all patients
Special reports request by the Manager, Director or designee
Daily attendance records and summaries of same
Meetings and Conference
To attend quarterly and/or monthly meetings
To hold regular facility meetings to:
Report on and discuss activities and needs of facility
Discuss patient's needs and progress
Discuss reports and records
Discuss expansion in terms of future goals and needs
To see that all facility routines and procedures are carried out as outlined
Professional Status and Public Relations
To keep abreast of new techniques and trends in the field of Physical Therapy
To attend conventions meetings, or special courses whenever possible and to share with personnel information gained thereby
To prepare and give talks to community groups as requested
To maintain good public relations with all community sources
Delegation of Responsibility
To delegate portions of the above listed duties to department/facility personnel with approval of the Director or his designee, and in line with the best use of time and experience of such personnel
New Personnel
To assist with recruitment of applicants for positions
Orient new personnel to the program and procedures
Facility Personnel
To evaluation, and report at regular intervals, the work of other employees, students, or volunteers within the facility
Planning
To plan for future improvement in procedures and organization of the facility and/or company
To assist the Manager and Director in planning of any new programs to be developed within the facility and/or company
Policies and Procedures
To keep current and adhere to policies and procedures as enumerated in the Policy and Procedures Manual
To assist the Manager and/or Director with the revision of any procedures with facility personnel as necessary
Education/Experience Required:
Must be a graduate of, have a certificate from, an American Physical Therapy Association approved school of Physical Therapy; or a school approved by the World Congress of Physical Therapy; current state of Ohio license and/or registration is required
Must have verification card of current instruction in CPR
Must know the principles and practice of Physical Therapy; be familiar with the American Physical Therapy Association Code of Ethics; facility policies, procedures, and regulations; layout of the facility; be aware of inter- and intra-facility communications; supervision and management techniques
Must be able to apply the theory of Physical Therapy; have the ability and competency to operate the equipment of his or her position; perform technical procedures, speak intelligently and in a professional manner before others; supervision and management skills
Must be able to instill confidence in patients, doctors and personnel.
Must be able to determine proper procedure and methods and evaluate results, must make decisions on his or her own.
Must be able to adapt to emergency situation,
Must be alert to changes in the patient's condition and all activities of the facility and company.
Must have a high degree of accuracy in carry out prescription, in receiving and translating information and in charting and reporting.
Must have coordination of sight and body movements in various applications of procedures; techniques of assisting and handling patients; ability to handle the tools and machines of the profession.
Supervising responsibility:
Responsible for making recommendations and/or decisions for hiring, corrective
actions, terminations and performance evaluations. Assist with payroll processing, invoice verification and coding along with staff schedule and maintenance. Manager will assist in budget forecasting and analytical analysis for respective clinic location.
Physical Requirements:
Physical requirements for the position include the ability to frequently hear and communicate orally, see up close and at a distance, read and comprehend, stand, sit, walk, reach, handle, and/or feel objects. Must be able to climb, pull, push and kneel. Ability to demonstrate exercises properly without limitations. Maximum unassisted lift = 50 lbs. Average lift 25-50 lbs.
