Founded in 2008 with 50 students in 5th grade, KIPP Columbus currently serves over 2,000 students in grades kindergarten through twelfth. The mission of KIPP Columbus is to create a system of schools where students develop the intellectual, academic, and social skills needed to understand and take action on issues they encounter in everyday life.

The Opportunity

Are you a teacher or educator looking for a meaningful way to stay engaged over the summer? The Summer Program Coordinator role is a stipend-based opportunity ideal for individuals on summer break who want to support students, schools, and partners during the busy summer programming season.

This position plays a critical role in ensuring the smooth day-to-day operations of summer programming on campus. The coordinator serves as a consistent, reliable point of contact for all stakeholders—ensuring a safe, welcoming environment and that all shared spaces are left better than they were found.

Job Description

Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

On-Site Partner Liaison and Logistics Support

Serve as the main point of contact for all summer programming, ensuring consistency for program partners, school staff, and operational teams.

Maintain a safe, welcoming, and organized environment in all summer program spaces.

Act as a liaison between program partners and on-site operations teams, including the School Operations team, Facilities and Grounds team, and the Safety and Security team.

Manage campus access in coordination with the Safety and Security team.

Coordinate day-to-day logistics and respond to operational needs to ensure programming runs efficiently and effectively.

Provide weekly summaries of summer programming to School Leaders and the Chief Operating Officer.

Family Communications and Outreach

Serve as a responsive and supportive point of contact for families during summer programming.

Communicate promptly with families regarding any issues, incidents, or concerns.

Capture and share highlights from summer programming by providing three photos and brief messaging each week for KIPP’s social media platforms.

Qualifications

At least five (3) years of experience supporting or working in K-12 school systems preferred

A track record of performance and successful implementation across multiple concurrent projects, shifting and competing priorities, and driving teams towards results

Demonstrated understanding of youth development and enrichment programming within school systems

Ability to deal with ambiguity and conflict, while leading and managing teams of people, in many instances through influence or without direct-line authority

Demonstrated strong presentation, organizational, documentation, and training skills

Demonstrated values around anti-racism by reinforcing a commitment to equity through actions and unconscious bias.

Belief that outstanding school leaders, staff, and teachers can achieve excellent outcomes for all students

Ability to persevere with a sense of optimism, strong problem solving skills, and desire to learn and grow in a collaborative professional learning community

Willingness, and commitment, to go above and beyond to prove the possible with students.

Ability to multi-task and work within an ambiguous, fast-moving, start-up environment, while driving toward clarity and solutions

Excellent written and oral communication skills

Compensation and Benefits

KIPP Columbus will provide a $8,000 stipend for eight weeks of summer programming support.
