Description:

Benning Power Electronics makes Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS), battery chargers, and backup power systems for some of the largest companies in the world in the chemical, telecommunications, and public transportation industries. We serve a niche market by providing high-reliability, customized solutions instead of mass-produced standard products. Our equipment is used in critical applications that cannot tolerate a loss of power. Benning is a global company based in Germany with offices in many countries; the US subsidiary located in Richardson, TX, is responsible for sales, engineering, manufacturing, and field service in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to work at our factory in Richardson, TX. Starting with the customer’s requirements, you will select standard AC-to-DC and DC-to-AC power modules from Benning’s product line to use as building blocks for creating a power conversion system. You will select a standard enclosure or design a custom enclosure. You will arrange components such as power modules, transformers, circuit breakers, voltage and current measurement devices, busbars, etc., within the enclosure based upon their electrical and mechanical characteristics, designing custom supports and mounting plates as necessary. You will create 2D and 3D drawings for manufacturing and assembly, and use our Enterprise Resource Management software to create parts and Bills of Material.

In addition to design work, you will answer questions that arise during the assembly and testing of the products in our factory.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Create 2D and 3D drawings

Design brackets, busbars, mounting plates, and enclosures

Arrange components within an enclosure while optimizing for wire routing, ventilation, ease of assembly and maintenance, minimal footprint, etc.

Create manufacturing instructions for parts and assembly

Resolve manufacturing issues such as interpretation of drawings, acceptability of parts, tolerances, interferences, assembly procedures, deformation, etc.

Create and maintain items, part numbers, and Bills of Material (BOM) in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software

Research and verify compliance to standards such as Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Underwriters Laboratories (UL), International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), etc.

Support new product development, product standardization, and design optimization

Support sales and marketing efforts

Required Qualifications:
