Job Description

Company Overview:

We are a well-established commercial electrical company. We have been in business for over 45 years and are based out of Portland, ME. We specialize in large commercial projects, including commercial solar installations. Our commitment to quality, safety, and customer satisfaction has earned us a reputation for excellence, and we are currently seeking a dedicated Project Superintendent to join our growing Commercial Solar team. Our company values integrity, efficiency, and a no-nonsense approach to business. We are committed to providing stellar customer service and creating effective systems that support our operations.

Job Overview:

The VP of Solar Operations will provide strategic leadership and oversight for our commercial solar division, ensuring that all projects—from inception to completion—align with our broader business objectives. This role requires a strong background in commercial electrical and solar work, along with executive-level experience managing multiple large-scale initiatives. The ideal candidate will excel at driving operational efficiency, building high-performing teams, and fostering lasting relationships with key stakeholders and clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Provide executive oversight of multiple large commercial solar projects, guiding them toward on-time, on-budget completion while maintaining high standards of quality.

Develop and implement strategic initiatives to drive profitability, efficiency, and sustained growth in our commercial solar operations.

Collaborate with senior leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and resource allocation to support the short- and long-term objectives of the solar division.

Establish and maintain processes for tracking and reporting project metrics, leveraging tools like Procore for daily reports, change orders, and as-built documentation.

Ensure strict adherence to safety and environmental regulations at the federal, state, and local levels, creating a culture of accountability across all project sites.

Serve as the primary liaison for major stakeholders, including top-tier clients, regulatory agencies, and strategic partners, maintaining transparent and proactive communication.

Lead and mentor managerial and field teams, fostering continuous improvement and professional development across the organization.

Oversee problem-solving strategies for any on-site or operational challenges, collaborating with project managers and other executives to develop long-term, scalable solutions.

Drive innovation in workflow and process design, ensuring our systems remain cutting-edge while still embracing a practical, no-nonsense approach.

Travel as necessary throughout New England, especially Maine and Massachusetts, to provide hands-on support and leadership at project locations.

Qualifications:

Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in commercial electrical construction or a related field, ideally with substantial commercial solar exposure.

Proven track record of managing multiple large-scale projects simultaneously, with accountability for budgeting, scheduling, and overall performance.

Strong executive presence and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with internal teams, executive leadership, and external stakeholders.

Master Electrician or Journeyman license in Maine, Massachusetts, and/or New Hampshire is preferred, though a solid working knowledge of electrical and solar regulations is essential.

Demonstrated success in developing strategic initiatives that enhance operational efficiency and drive organizational growth.

Proficiency in project management tools (such as Procore), alongside the ability to analyze key metrics and adjust strategies accordingly.

A commitment to upholding safety, quality, and customer satisfaction as core organizational values.

Willingness to embrace new approaches, learn from leadership, and innovate when it serves the best interests of the company.
