SUMMARY: The Host is responsible for creating a warm and welcoming first impression for guests at the resort’s high-occupancy restaurant. This position manages reservations, greets and seats guests, and ensures smooth front-of-house operations by coordinating with servers and other FOH staff.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Including but not limited to:
Greet guests upon arrival with a friendly smile and professional demeanor, setting the tone for a great dining experience.
Manage the seating chart and coordinate with servers to ensure efficient table turnover.
Monitor wait times and communicate accurate estimates to guests.
Handle reservations and walk-ins, ensuring proper spacing of tables to optimize service.
Assist with answering phones, taking reservations, and responding to guest inquiries.
Work closely with the Restaurant Assistant Manager and FOH team to maintain smooth restaurant flow during peak hours.
Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the host stand, entrance, and waiting areas.
Provide guests with menus and communicate any specials or important dining information.
Assist with guest accommodations; including high chairs, accessibility seating, and large party arrangements.
Thank guests upon departure and ensure they had a positive experience.
Uphold Hospitality Standards, Company Culture, Department Core Standards and observe Company policies and procedures.
Be the “End of the Line” and resolve every situation inherited, not passing it along, whenever possible.
Follow up on any situation that is not fully resolved at the time of the initial request always giving consideration to what the guest or owner deems appropriate.
Strive to close the loop (alleviate or eliminate issues) on any situations that cannot be fully resolved.
Respond promptly to all email and voicemail correspondence.
Maintain a positive working relationship with all contacts, always being helpful and courteous.
Always adhere to Company appearance standards, and wear name badge when required.
Attend and participate in company-wide training sessions and department staff meetings.
MARGINAL DUTIES: Functions that are not considered essential to the job:
Perform other duties as assigned.
Assist with light bussing or resetting tables as needed to support the FOH team.
Participate in team meetings and training to enhance guest service skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Prior experience in a host or front-of-house position in a restaurant or hospitality setting is a plus.

EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE: One-year related experience preferred
COMPUTER EXPERIENCE: Ability to type by touch, operate a personal computer and accurately record time worked, in the correct department, using the Company time keeping system. Ability to utilize appropriate programs using a mobile device. Can operate office equipment (copier, scanner, phone, and calculator) and has a good understanding of Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Must be comfortable with search engines and navigating the internet.
LANGUAGE ABILITY: Ability to speak, read, write and interpret in English. Ability to read job descriptions, maintenance and operating instructions, procedures, regulations, routine reports, rules, safety instructions and schedules. Ability to speak effectively and present information to guests, owners, other employees of the organization, management, outside vendors and the general public. Ability to speak effectively before small groups. Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to calculate commissions, discounts, interest, percentages and rates
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Ability to stand for extended periods and move throughout the restaurant.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds less than 1/3 of the time.
