• Shepherd role for Angus Stud & Commercial sheep operation • Good work culture with development potential, where owners value their people • Weber, Dannevirke Location: A proud multi-generational family farming business, that operates across 2 properties, Ratanui at Weber and Anui at Dannevirke with a total of 1,090 ha (1,030 effective). This role is based at Ratanui being the Weber Hill Country / breeding block.
Ratanui is an 870ha (820Ha effective) property located 32km (30 minutes) east of Dannevirke.
It is mixed contour with it being predominantly hill country.
The successful candidate will be required to help out at the Anui finishing block from time to time.
The overall operation consists of the our Dandaleith Angus Stud, alongside our Dorset Down and Romney sheep stud and 4000 commercial breeding ewes, We aim to finish most of our progeny and are focused on achieving high performance.
We have recently undertaken significant development at Ratanui with some more to do.
The role: Due to our current shepherd moving overseas a Shepherd position has become available.
You will be working closely with the owner / manager to complete a variety of tasks with a split of around 70:30 stock to general work, this mix changes through the seasons also.
For this role you will need to have a strong level of stockmanship and a well-controlled team of working dogs.
You will need to be able to work hard at certain times of the year, work autonomously and above all be trustworthy team player.
We are looking for a positive self-starter, someone who would like to pick up more responsibility and take ownership of their tasks.
Good communication skills are essential for this role The key to your success in this role will be your attention to detail and your ability to take a high level of pride in your work along with excellent communicator and a reliable team player We are looking for a Shepherd who is highly motivated and would enjoy being part of the stud operation.
The below are also key to success in this role: • 2-3 years shepherd experience.
• Capable team of 4-6 working dogs.
• Able to handle larger mobs of sheep and cattle.
• Good level of stockmanship and animal health skills.
• Be highly motivated & hard working and have good time management skills.
• Strong attention to detail and tidiness.
• Handpiece skills, basic fencing, tractor experience.
• Be physically fit.
• Trustworthy and honest • Good open communication • At least a Restricted Driver's License.
