ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking Mine Engineer Interns for Summer 2024 who are passionate about sustainability, driven by curiosity and keen to grow, learn, develop and thrive in our high-performance culture. This opportunity will be a 10-week, paid internship beginning May 28th, 2024.
This internship opportunity will be located at our Aggregate/Underground Mine site in North Aurora, IL and will travel to other aggregate sites in the area throughout the summer (South Elgin, IL and Elburn, IL).
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
The Mining Engineer intern will work in our ACM (Aggregate Construction Materials) division during our 10-week program and learn the Aggregates business and develop production and leadership skills.
Gain knowledge about the operating procedures, production/maintenance, and various products at one of our Aggregate sites.
Operates and maintains equipment throughout the plant, including but not limited to, crushers, screens, conveyors, and heavy off-road equipment.
Understand various mechanical, maintenance, and production operations.
Assists in the blasting process, including laying out drill patterns and loading shots.
Becomes familiar with the operations of an Aggregate Mine, understanding the complete production process.
Utilize various skill sets/knowledge during day-to-day operations and to achieve team/company goals.
Create a presentation at the end of your internship to executive leadership regarding what you have learned and what you believe you have contributed to the business.

Students who are currently enrolled in an undergraduate program majoring in Mining Engineering or similar field.

SCHEDULE AND ENVIRONMENT
This is an onsite role; the intern will be expected to be onsite Monday - Friday and work an 8-hour shift (40 hours per week is mandatory).
In this internship position, you will be working in one of our aggregate environments (quarry, surface mine, underground mine). Within this environment, you will be exposed to moving mechanical equipment, airborne particles, outside weather conditions, explosives and more.
You will be responsible for your own transportation to and from your worksite for the summer.
Throughout the duration of your internship, you may be required to travel for site tours, shadow experiences, or intern events. You will receive mileage reimbursement for this travel.
