Process Engineer
Hickory, NC
My client is seeking a dedicated and skilled Process Engineer to join the team in Hickory, NC. This role involves collaboration with operations, maintenance, quality, corporate engineering, and sales to produce cost-effective products that meet quality and engineering specifications. The Process Engineer will drive technician training and development, resolve machine and process issues, take ownership of Process Safety Management, lead solution-driven teams, develop new products, and optimize production lines to improve quality and meet customer expectations.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science in Engineering preferred; Industrial Engineering background.
4+ years of experience in process engineering; 3+ years in coating and converting; 8+ years of industrial engineering experience in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
Hands-on personality.
Knowledge of hand tools and power tools is essential.
Proficiency with multimeters, thermography equipment, gas detection equipment, gas chromatographs, air flow meters, etc.
Willingness to travel up to 10%
Responsibilities & Duties
Collaborate with plant production and maintenance staff to understand and support daily activities and new projects.
Lead project implementation with technical expertise and influencing capabilities.
Execute and reinforce improvements with strong change management skills.
Prioritize safety in all team activities and approaches to work.
Lead or conduct equipment risk assessments to drive safety improvements using best engineering practices.
Actively participate in plant safety initiatives.
Own and update run conditions for all processes in the plant, maintaining an up-to-date database for traceability.
Coordinate with the Quality group to meet product commitments and customer expectations.
Lead new product development efforts at the plant in coordination with corporate engineering; conduct trials as needed.
Identify machine issues and ensure timely repairs by the maintenance team.
Identify process opportunities and drive capital and plant investments for improvements.
Develop CapEx plans with Plant Manager and Corporate Engineering; construct payback models for capital projects and verify financial benefits post-completion.
Communicate effectively across all levels, from management to the factory floor, to translate process expectations.
Collaborate with Quality and Operations to manage process changes in a controlled manner.
Serve as a liaison between corporate engineering, quality, and facility, communicating project details, trials, and engineering functions.
Coordinate with the plant leadership team; attend and participate in daily plant operations meetings, lead Kaizen events, and perform Gemba walks.
Identify and resolve process issues quickly using DOE or similar tools to drive improvements.
Use lean concepts to lead Kaizen events focused on cost reduction and process optimization.
