Job Title: Lead Mobile Mechanic

Location: Vicksburg Forest Products

Job Type: Full-Time

FLSA: Hourly

Key Responsibilities:

Responsible for leading a team of mobile mechanics and directing the workflow to ensure the safety and productivity of all mill’s mobile equipment.

Responsibilities:

Diagnoses mechanical problems and performs repairs and maintenance on mill mobile equipment. Reviews and completes repairs identified on pre-shift inspections.

Prepares and reviews all work orders to ensure that labor, materials and parts are properly charged, and work is completed according to established guidelines.

Helps to evaluate mechanics performance and identify training opportunities

Identify equipment and parts needs and procures parts, within assigned spending limits, necessary to complete repairs.

Utilizes CMMS system to place requisitions and track work orders

Respond to on-site service calls and provide mobile mechanical services to ensure equipment is running at optimal performance.

Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all mobile and stationary equipment to reduce the risk of unexpected breakdowns.

Ensures high standards of workmanship and safety are maintained across all repair and maintenance tasks.

Manage parts inventory and equipment, ensuring necessary tools and replacement parts are readily available for all maintenance and repair tasks.

Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company safety standards, industry regulations, and local laws. Promote a culture of safety and maintain a safe work environment.

Work closely with the production team and other departments to coordinate maintenance schedules and minimize disruption to operations.

Keep detailed records of repairs, maintenance activities, and equipment status to provide insights into equipment performance and future maintenance needs.

Qualifications:

Knowledge and ability to diagnose and repair engine, transmission, brake, suspension, electrical, hydraulic, body components and systems related to all mobile equipment

Knowledge of fuel systems

At least 2 years of vehicle/hydraulic maintenance experience

Must meet mill company requirements to safely operate mobile equipment

Demonstrated experience in a lead role

Relevant certifications (e.g., automotive, heavy equipment, or industrial mechanic certification) are preferred.

Proven experience leading a team, including training, motivating, and providing technical guidance.

Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to think quickly and solve complex mechanical issues. Ability to lift heavy tools and parts, work in a variety of weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks.

Preferred Attributes:

Previous experience in sawmill equipment repair.

Strong understanding of PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers) and automated machinery.

Excellent communication skills to coordinate with various teams and departments.
