What You'll Do: Ohio Department of Public Safety - Director's Office/Legal Services Report In Location: 1970 West Broad Street, Columbus, Ohio 43223 Work Hours: 8:00am - 5:00pm Compensation: $41.23 - $58.91 (Rate to be determined base off of education & experience) Under administrative direction, serves in a fiduciary capacity & plans, directs, & coordinates legal program for assigned division within the Ohio Department of Public Safety (ODPS) (i.e., cases have legal impact on other state agencies, governmental jurisdictions &/or private sector): * Researches & provides advice to Human Resources staff &/or other departmental leadership on matters related to employment, civil service, & labor matters (e.g., issues implicating classified & other public service, discrimination law, disability law, wage & hour law, collective bargaining agreement interpretation & arbitration, family & medical leave, &/or other related litigation; * Reviews & provides recommendations for updates or changes to employer policies & procedures; Reviews & provides advice on internal administrative investigations; * Reviews & assists with responding to Title VI complaints; Reviews &/or prepares position statements to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Ohio Civil Rights Commission, &/or other governmental civil rights oversight bodies; * Conducts legal research & prepares briefs, contracts, leases, orders & other legal documents; Reviews &/or oversees the review of complaints for potential legal violations; Provides assistance in resolving complex questions of law; * Collaborates with Ohio Attorney General on complex litigation matters before state & federal courts & administrative bodies, including employment litigation, civil service appeals, & workers' compensation; * Provides legal counsel for agency officials, or represents the Director, Assistant Director & Deputy Directors in legal matters related to agency work; * Represents high-level management in meetings where legal expertise is required & answers legal inquiries form government officials &/or the public; * Under the direction of agency Chief Legal Counsel & Assistant Chief Legal Counsel, coordinates legal services; * Assists in development of legal policies & procedures in assigned area in matters having a legal impact on other state agencies & in assigned area; * Develops & implements policies relating to legal functions; * Reviews draft administrative rules for legal input; Reviews bills as they are introduced for possible impact on the department; * Attends, participates, &/or leads meetings, conferences, trainings, or hearings as required; * Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief Legal Counsel, Assistant Chief Legal Counsel, or Director's Office.

Admission to Ohio Bar pursuant to Section 4705.01 of Revised Code; 18 mos.
