POSITION: Engine Operator 1

SALARY: $20.00-$22.56

REPORTS TO: Operations Technician

LOCATION: Mt. Tolman

Basic Functions: This is a Non Exempt position. Employees at this level serve as members of a (2-4) two to four person engine crew. They are expected to have basic fire fighting skills and knowledge of basic fire behavior. The work involves activities related to wildland fire suppression/management/control as a firefighter on an engine, helitack module, or handcrew. Other related duties might involve fire prevention, patrol, fuels management projects and repair of and will be required to assist other Fire Management staff with various work projects such as cutting and piling vegetation, operating ATVs, grass seeding, fencingand mowing. The nature of work is characterized by the varied nature of assignments

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Training:

High School Diploma or GED

Must possess current fire training certificates for the following courses:ICS-100, IS-700, S-130, S-190, L-180, and Standards for Survival/LCES.

Must have a minimum of 2 seasons in fire suppression and fire management (each season includes the summer months June, July, August, and September

Must be able to pass a current pack test with Arduous rating rating.

Must be Red Card qualified as a FFT2

Possession of, or the ability to obtain prior to hire, a valid Washington State Driver's License, employee must be insurable under the Tribe's Licensing requirements.

Must qualify for a U.S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator's Identification Card.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of standard fire program requirements, suppression tactics, methods and procedures and skill in the use of wildland fire firefighting hand tools, pumps, and hoses, and chainsaw sufficient to perform routine assigned fire suppression and prescribed assignment and to maintain firefighter tools and equipment.

Basic Knowledge of fire behavior, hazards, and accepted fire safety practices and procedures to prevent injury and loss of life.

Some knowledge of agency and interagency qualifications, position task book requirements and certification standards

Ability to perform duties under stressful and adverse operation conditions, such as long work hours, heavy workloads, emergency situations, adverse working and environment conditions

Ability to operate four wheel drive pickup trucks and fire engines

Must pass the arduous firefighter medical examination needed to take the Arduous pack test

Must take a Pack Test, and pass with an Arduous rating

Must be able to perform moderate to heavy physical tasks in the outdoors in all weather conditions

Must be available to work as needed beyond a 40-hour workweek including weekend, holidays and extended hours on weekdays

Note: Pursuant to Tribal Policy, if this position is safety sensitive it is subject to pre-employment drug testing. In addition, this position is subject to reasonable suspicion and post-accident drug testing.

TRIBAL MEMBER AND INDIAN PREFERENCE WILL APPLY; PREFERENCE WILL ALSO BE GIVEN TO HONORABLY DISCHARGED VETERANS WHO ARE MINIMALLY QUALIFIED.

If required of this position, you must possess and maintain a valid Washington State driver's license and be eligible for the Tribes' Vehicle Insurance. In addition, this position may be subject to pre-employment background clearances. If applicable, these clearances must be maintained throughout employment.
