OVERVIEW: Are you a hands-on HR professional looking for an opportunity to make a real impact? Johns Disposal is seeking a Senior Human Resources Generalist to oversee daily HR functions, support employees, and ensure compliance with company policies and employment regulations. This is a key role in fostering a positive work environment and driving HR initiatives that enhance employee experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage day-to-day HR operations, including employee relations, compensation, benefits, and leave administration.

Oversee compliance tracking, including mandatory and voluntary training programs, and certifications.

Work as a team with the Safety Manager; responsible for various safety training, tracking, and safety-related tasks.

Manage employee onboarding, including orientation and recognition programs.

Maintain accurate HR records, employee files, and HRIS data management.

Support managers and employees with HR-related inquiries, policies, and procedures.

Conduct or assist with investigations, corrective actions, and terminations as needed.

Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and best practices.

Stay informed on HR trends, talent management strategies, and employment law updates.

Prepare reports and documentation, including EEO-1, affirmative action plans, and employee handbooks.

Manage unemployment claims and employment verifications.

Serve as a backup for recruiting and safety-related tasks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Ability to be assertive and follow process and procedure consistently.

Ability to prioritize tasks and to delegate them when appropriate.

Ability to act with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.

Thorough knowledge of employment-related laws and regulations.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.

Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems.

Ability to speak Spanish is a plus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Associate’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.

At least one year of human resource management experience is preferred.

OR

Any combination or education and experience which would provide the applicant with the desired knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the job.

SHRM-CP is a plus.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
