Job Summary
The Custodian is responsible for maintaining cleanliness, orderliness, and sanitation within the organization's facilities, ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for staff, volunteers, and visitors. The Custodian plays a critical role in supporting the mission of the organization by upholding high standards of cleanliness in common areas, offices, restrooms, and other designated spaces. This position requires attention to detail, a proactive approach, and a commitment to service.
Key Responsibilities
Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors in common areas, offices, restrooms, and hallways.
Dust and wipe down furniture, windowsills, and surfaces.
Clean interior and exterior walls, windows, and blinds.
Remove debris from sidewalks, stairs, and surrounding areas.
Clean and sanitize restrooms, ensuring toilets, sinks, mirrors, and fixtures are thoroughly cleaned and supplies are replenished (soap, paper towels, toilet paper).
Empty trash and recycling bins, properly dispose of waste, and ensure separation and disposal of recyclable and non-recyclable materials according to established guidelines.
Assist with setting up and cleaning up for special events, meetings, or activities, which includes moving furniture, setting up tables and chairs, and removing trash and debris before and after events.
Follow established safety procedures and guidelines, including the appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and safe handling of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
Maintain accurate records of cleaning activities, including tasks performed, supplies used, and areas cleaned.
Report any maintenance issues or repair needs promptly to the Custodian Lead or Facility Management Services Director.
Clean common areas including lobbies, hallways, stairwells, and elevators, promoting a safe and healthy environment by minimizing the spread of germs.
Provide professional and courteous customer service to students, visitors, and staff, responding to inquiries, requests, and complaints in a timely manner.
Perform additional duties as needed to support the ministry and its objectives.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent is desirable.
Previous experience in custodial or janitorial work is preferred, but not required.
Skills and Abilities
Basic knowledge of cleaning techniques, materials, and equipment.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
Ability to work well within a team environment and collaborate with coworkers to achieve common goals.
Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor, including lifting, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, employees will frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, talk and hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle, feel or operate standard custodial equipment; and will need to reach with hands and arms. The role requires the ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally, and more than 50 pounds infrequently with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
