Position Summary:

The Head of Operations is overall responsible for the functional operations of each scope of service of the yacht management division for the Fort Lauderdale office. S/He is to ensure the yacht management operations of the Fort Lauderdale yacht management fleet meets the company performance standards established for each yacht within the Yacht Management Agreement with the clients.

He/she can motivate the yacht management team, foster cross-different departmental synergies within the group and provide exceptional customer service. He or she has excellent relationship building skills and fosters close relations with Captains, Yacht Owners and their representatives to proactively target, build and sustain a vibrant fleet of yachts within the yacht management department. He or she will have responsibilities to operate each yacht within approved budgets and meet or exceed targeted annual performance levels. He or she will have a strong interest in relationship building and the ability to motivate the team to exceed targets. He or she will be responsible for supervision of the yacht management department and staff. The Head of Operations is responsible for ensuring the safe operations of the fleet focusing on maintaining regulatory compliance with flag state and class society rules. As the leader of the yacht management team, he/she will be responsible for promoting safe work practices and the adherence to company policies.

Key Duties & Responsibilities (not limited to):

Assist the Executive team in the operation of the Yacht Management Department

Coordinate new yachts entering the fleet in order to assure a smooth startup for all contracted services

Create new business by increasing the fleet of managed vessels for existing clients.

Participate in Yacht Management proposals and presentation in view of business development.

Assist the sales brokers, charter brokers and charter managers with yacht management questions or advice based on industry standards.

Actively promote Yacht Management by assisting for articles, publication and occasional seminars or industry events when applicable.

Improve client satisfaction by retaining and increasing the number of clients in YM for all business via referrals.

Ensure that client KYC requirements applicable to the yacht management functions are implemented.

Ensure that the yacht management staff is properly trained, and team members are performing to their best capabilities

Forecast the yachts annual budget and attain revenue forecast and ensure monthly financials are sent out in a timely manner.

Establish quality crew administration services including crew contracts, crew medical, crew joining and existing paperwork.

Understand and meet client individual expectations while delivering exceptional service

Promote the company Safety Management System within the department and assist where needed in the annual internal and external ISM audits

Develop a culture of client problem solving on a proactive basis

Stimulate cross selling throughout the wider MarineMax companies

Job Essential Functions (essential skills, experience and qualitifications):

Essential Skills:

Excellent in both verbal and written communication in English. A second language is a plus

Good interpersonal skills with the ability to engage and interact with people at all levels

Good planning and organizational skills

Ability to recommend/produce creative and effective solutions to problems. Clear and efficient problem solving is essential

Committed to delivering a quality service, controlling costs and providing value for money

Ability to work and deliver under pressure

Experience:

Significant experience in a similar position preferably in an international context

Minimum 10 years working experience within the maritime industry

Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering or relevant field or Unlimited Master Mariner. Relevant work experience may be substituted for educational experience

Recognized marine qualification, ex Captain, Marine Engineer, Naval Architect, Class Surveyor or proven Maritime technical experience

DPA and CSO certification preferred

Work Environment and Physical Abilities:

Work Environment:

Work is conducted most often indoors in an air conditioned, illuminated office environment and periodically outdoors inspecting boats, meeting with yacht captains, and crew aboard vessels, at ports, and on floating barges.

Utilization of standard office equipment is used in the working environment.

Exposure to harmful chemicals or conditions may occur while inspecting yacht engine rooms or at ports and require safety equipment.

Local, national and international travel is required up to 30-40 % of time. Ability and willingness to travel internationally is required.

Motor skills and senses needed to carry out duties include talking, listening, typing, writing, visual inspection of documents and spaces.

Physical Abilities:

Lifting up to 50 lbs., pushing, walking, climbing up/down ladders/stairs on boats and climbing into small spaces.
