We are looking for a hands-on, Senior Formulation Manager that has a track record of launching innovative products that exceed consumer expectations. Reporting directly to the Vice President R&D, this individual will translate the ideation and vision of the company into new product development and plans that supports our rapid growth as a company.
This role will lead formula initiatives in cosmetic & OTC applications for feminine care, personal care from Greenhouse to Prototype Lock. The successful candidate will embrace our brand pillars and innovation goals, and supporting the interdisciplinary R&D, Innovation, Marketing, and Operations teams.
This individual will be instrumental in the effort to develop robust green chemistry formulations that capture the brand vision and needs of the humans we serve. This role requires significant hands-on bench work during product discovery & development and attention to detail in a fast-paced global supply chain that is part of a dynamic startup company.
What You'll Do:
The role of the Senior Formulation Manager is to support new product launches by ensuring that the raw materials (direct sourced and through our manufacturing partners), formulations and manufacturability meets expectations and specifications for innovation projects. The Senior Formulation Manager is responsible for working collaboratively with the multifunctional team to successfully execute a comprehensive innovation plan to feed the launch calendars. This role requires strong problem-solving and organization skills and experience to support projects of global scope and complexity. Additionally, the role will be tightly linked to the VP R&D and VP Innovation to build a pipeline of viable prototypes for rapid execution in our Innovation funnel.
The role will be hybrid, based in or near Burlington, Vermont due to our discovery lab location.
Develop formula solutions with the organization’s regulatory, cost and sustainability goals in mind, especially for new global markets.
Collaborate with co-manufacturing partners to offer expertise and ensure The Honey Pot standards are met for formulated products based on process, product type, etc.
Build prototype products during Discovery phase in close collaboration with VP R&D
Partner with Procurement and Quality team to manage relations with suppliers and vendors as the raw material chemistry SME.
Accountable for the creation and maintenance of formulation standards for development as part of the Design & Development Process.
Supports the Compliance Team to develop Fill and Assembly (F&A) Finished Goods specifications as part of the transition to manufacturing of developed formulations.
Collaborates on scale-up initiatives with Compliance team to ensure products are made on quality and on time.
Collaborates with Innovation and Regulatory to design and implement on budget claims support work as part of product lock processes, including human clinical trials where appropriate.
Act as subject matter expert in personal care and cosmetic materials to support, coach and guide our non-technical partners.
Support continuous improvement initiatives and cost reduction activities to enhance processes and drive operational efficiency.
Stay informed on green chemistry raw materials and evolving regulatory requirements.
Who You Are:
Preferred: In-depth understanding of beauty and personal care ingredients
Focused experience in plant based personal care products with proven
Strong understanding of manufacturing lines set up, MOQs and BOM COGS
Understanding a wide variety of manufacturing systems from wipes, anhydrous formulas, creams, lotions and surfactant blends using green chemistry.
Proactive and problem-solving approach
Excellent organization, verbal and written communication skills
Must have the ability to work as part of a team to achieve common objectives with strong team influencing skills, yet flexible in a rapidly changing environment
Up to 25% travel required
A human based in or near Burlington, Vermont (Within driving distance) Relocation support will not be available
What You Need:
BS degree in Chemistry preferred
Minimum of 8-10 years’ experience in Beauty & Personal Care development
Experience with a variety of manufacturing techniques, Supply Chain Operations, Planning and/or Project Management experience is beneficial
Must have the ability to work in the USA, no visa support is available

Workplace conditions and environment:
Regularly works in a modern business office environment, may occasionally work out of lab locations or other off-site locations. Full-time position. Days and hours of work are generally Monday through Friday. This position may infrequently require longer hours and weekend work.
