Job Title: Biomedical Technician
Function:
The Biomedical Technician is responsible for overall operational condition, maintenance, and repair of all water treatment equipment, medical equipment, and mechanical/electrical systems so as to ensure patient safety and the safety of staff operating such equipment. Additional responsibilities include ensuring adequate inventory levels according to established procedures.

Qualifications:
1 year experience in dialysis equipment, electronics, electricity or plumbing, or on the job training mechanical repair, maintenance and servicing of dialysis equipment and water treatment system.
Maintenance and troubleshooting of dialysis water treatment systems.
Demonstrate a working knowledge of the English language and communicate verbally and in writing.
High school diploma
Principal Responsibilities:
1. Understand the Policies and Procedures for water treatment.
2. Troubleshoots and repairs components on printed circuit boards in hemodialysis equipment.
3. Troubleshoots hemodialysis equipment and makes necessary repairs to hydraulic and electrical system.
4. Disinfects water treatment systems and cultures each system proper standards are met and maintained.
5. Performs safety checks, determines % rejection and sends water analysis on RO water treatment systems.
6. Ensures brine tanks are cleaned and filled as needed.
7. Assist nursing personnel in troubleshooting equipment related problems.
8. Trained in the preparation of “dry acid” and bicarb dialysate solutions and prepare these solutions in adequate amounts for daily use. Maintain quality control standards and records of these solutions.
9. Is able to respond quickly and efficiently to any situation which may occur, ( i.e. leaking plumbing, light bulb change, overflowing sink, smoke detector battery changes etc.) as requested.
10. Ensure operations of equipment in accordance with manufactures recommendations.

11. Establish and maintain a preventative maintenance program and support documentation for all water treatment equipment, medical equipment, and related mechanical and electrical systems.
12. Repair and maintain equipment as recommended by the manufacturers.
13. Repair Parts:
A. Establish and inventory of spare parts necessary for repair of equipment.
Maintain inventory at approved level.
B. Confer with the executive Director regarding the purchase of parts and equipment necessary for the repair, maintenance, and operations of mechanical system.
Policy Administration
1. Participate in the annual ESRD survey conducted at the facility.
2. Serve as a member of the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement (QAPI) and
Safety committee.
3. Restrict staff and equipment manufacturers from making modifications to water treatment equipment or medical equipment (including piping and wiring of same) without prior approval from the Medical Director.
4. In conjunction with the administrator and Medical Director, participate in the evaluation and selection of treatment supplies and make recommendations to the Executive Director.
Physical Plant
1. In the absence of contracted janitorial and cleaning services, be responsible for housekeeping services.
2. Establish in conjunction with the Administrator and executive Director a preventative maintenance program and recording system for all electrical HVAC, and security systems.
Manuals and Records
1. Maintain an organized file of catalogs and instruction manuals for equipment used within the facility.
2. Maintain an organized file system containing records of equipment repair, water treatment equipment logs, QAPI logs, and general maintenance of facility HVAC systems, inventory control records, water treatment logs, and other materials as necessary.
3. Maintain a listing of emergency telephone numbers and contacts necessary for the general maintenance and repair of the facility’s equipment and mechanical system.
4. Inform the Administrator, Executive and Medical Director, of the general content and location of the above data in the event it is required for their reference in an emergency.
5. Maintain up-to-date flow diagrams and written back-up procedures for the facility’s water treatment system.

Training
1. Participate in ongoing inservices of proper operation and maintenance of equipment and mechanical systems using guidelines established by the manufacturer of the equipment.
2. Participate in on-going training of NEW Equipment and water system.
3. Participate in ongoing training of Infection Control and Safety.
Inventory Control
1. Ensure that deliveries are received and are documented, verifying type, quantity, and condition of supplies as received.
2. Immediately report to the facility Executive director discrepancies in supplies received as compared to type and quantity ordered.
3. Assist in providing supporting data to complete inventory reconciliation.
4. Organize storage area so as to facilitate control of inventory usage.
5. Supervise and control the dispensing of all treatment supplies in cooperation with the
Clinical Staff.
6. Any other duties required by the Executive Director.
