Columbus Academy seeks a full-time Upper School Spanish Teacher with responsibilities to begin in August 2025.
We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Spanish teacher who will bring language to life through immersive, hands-on experiences. Our 231-acre campus, rich with diverse learning spaces, provides the perfect backdrop for cultural exploration and interactive learning. The ideal candidate will integrate Spanish language instruction with real-world applications, fostering fluency through storytelling, creativity, culinary, and travel-based projects. By creating engaging, student-centered lessons, leading cultural field studies, and incorporating global perspectives, this educator will inspire a deep appreciation for the Spanish-speaking world and its diverse cultures.
The individual selected for this position will be expected to carry out the following responsibilities:
Teach five sections of Spanish, which meet regularly but not necessarily daily
Assume a share of supervisory responsibilities expected of all upper school faculty
Collaborate with departmental colleagues on curriculum design and development
Provide periodic updates to parents about student progress via both written reports and conferences
Make use of technological resources, including the school’s online learning management site for classes and integration of iPads and laptops in classroom activities
Hold students accountable for the school’s standards of behavior
Work with others in the school community to support each student's emotional well-being
Qualifications
Preferred candidates will possess the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Spanish as a second language or native speakers with a degree in Education
3+ years experience teaching Spanish in a high school or college
Ability to teach all courses and levels of Spanish, from level 1 to Honors level 5 (including preparations for AP exams)
A reflective practitioner committed to a continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learning
Evident enthusiasm for teaching young language learners
Physical Conditions
Candidates must be able to manage the following conditions:
Classroom environment
Mobility around school buildings and on different floors (handicap accessible)
Periodic need to move light furniture, hang visuals in classroom, carry objects (no more than 40 pounds), etc.
