Job Title: Import Manager – Air and Sea Freight

Location: Mumbai, India

Department: Operations / Logistics

Reports To: General Manager – Imports

Job Summary:

We are looking for an experienced Import Manager (Air & Sea Freight) to oversee and

manage the import operations for our organization. The ideal candidate will be responsible

for ensuring smooth and compliant import transactions, coordinating with customs

authorities, freight forwarders, shipping lines, and internal teams to streamline the import

process. This role demands a strategic mindset, excellent negotiation skills, and a deep

understanding of international trade regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

End-to-End Import Operations: Manage and oversee all air & sea import shipments,

ensuring timely clearance and delivery.

Customs Compliance & Documentation: Ensure compliance with Indian customs

laws, import regulations, and duty structures. Manage Bill of Entry filings, HS Code

classification, and import licenses.

Liaison with Authorities: Coordinate with Customs, DGFT, Shipping Lines, Airlines,

and other regulatory bodies for smooth import operations.

Vendor & Freight Negotiations: Engage with freight forwarders, carriers, and CHAs

to secure the best pricing and services. Optimize costs without compromising

efficiency.

Coordination & Communication: Work closely with internal departments (sales,

finance, and warehouse teams) to align import strategies with business needs.

Handling Special Cases: Manage critical shipments, bonded cargo, re-imports, and

high-value consignments.

Process Optimization: Identify and implement best practices to enhance efficiency,

reduce delays, and improve cost-effectiveness in import operations.

Risk Management: Ensure all documentation is complete and accurate to avoid

penalties or shipment delays. Address and resolve disputes related to customs

clearance.

Tracking & Reporting: Maintain records of all import transactions, analyze trends,

and provide periodic reports to management.

Business Development: Develop multiple lanes and sectors while bringing in existing

business to boost numbers and contribute to overall business growth.

Key Skills & Competencies:

Strong understanding of Indian and international import regulations.

Expertise in customs clearance procedures, HS Code classification, and duty

structures.

Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.

Ability to handle high-pressure situations and problem-solving.

Strong leadership and team management skills.

Proficiency in ERP systems, Excel, and import tracking tools.

Excellent communication skills for internal and external coordination.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, International

Business, or a related field.

Experience: Minimum 7-10 years of experience in import operations, with at least 3

years in a managerial role.

Certifications (Preferred): Diploma in Customs & Freight Forwarding / CHA License

would be an advantage.
