POSITION TITLE: Building Design (MEP) Engineer

POSITION SUMMARY:

CSArch, an A/E firm with offices in Albany and Newburgh, NY is currently seeking a full-time Building Design Engineer for the Albany office. The Building Design Engineer is an Engineer-in-Training on the path to licensure with between 0-5 years of experience. The successful candidate should possess an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree of Engineering. The candidate must have at least 1-3 years of Revit experience. This position is responsible for providing technical support in the development and design of engineered building systems.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under direction of Project Engineer, creates construction documents and document sets, including but not limited to plans, details, sections, schedules and legends. Guides the development of the work of others on some projects. Adheres to and implements firm-wide contract documentation procedures and standards.

Takes field measurements and documents existing building conditions to develop or modify engineered systems for projects.

Under the direction of the Project Engineer, recommends alterations to development and design to improve the design of projects, evaluates conventional system designs and writes technical specifications on projects.

Under the direction of the Project Engineer, serves as an in-house project representative for building systems and assists the architectural staff in coordination of the architectural elements with building systems.

Has knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field and relies on the Project Engineers instructions to perform the functions of a system design.

Researches applicable codes and standards for use in the design of building systems and writes project documentation including O&M manuals.

Assists Project Engineer and/or Project Architect during construction to process submittals and shop drawings. Evaluates equipment and systems submittals and determines if they meet contract specifications. Prepares submittals for return to Contractors.

Makes calculations using engineering formulas and skills. Uses computer to run standard programs to solve engineering problems.

REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:

Licensure Requirements: Unlicensed (expectation of pursuing professional licensure)

Education Requirements: Associate’s, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree of Engineering and/or Engineer-in-training (EIT) registration.

Experience: Minimum 0-2 years of experience (Summer Internships or 1-2 years experience preferred). Recent college graduate should have good to excellent drafting skills and ability to carry out job responsibilities with close guidance.

Computer Skills: Revit- minimum of 1-3 years experience and other design/presentation software programs; 3-D software

Excellent written, verbal and visual communication skills

Detail oriented, highly organized, self-motivated, accurate, work well under pressure, ability to follow directions and ask questions.

40+ hours M-F; overtime as necessary to meet deadlines, travel, driving, occasional lifting/carrying up to 40 lbs. Site observations may involve outdoor weather, year-round, moving mechanical equipment, climbing ladders/scaffolding and observing high area construction activities. Noise level is often loud. Background check may be required. Requires use of hardhat, construction boots, and possibly other safety equipment as required on a construction site.
