The Manufacturing Engineer will evaluate existing processes and configure manufacturing systems to reduce cost, improve sustainability and develop best practices within the production process to improve function and efficiency. The incumbent will use engineering, lean tools, and principals to monitor, analyze and improve manufacturing processes.

Essential Functions

Manage production process optimization projects from inception through completion, including Continuous Improvement (CI) projects and lead Kaizen events.

Conduct time studies, perform process and machine capability studies and provide recommendations for improvement.

Create and maintain production routings for all RBS items.

Ensure new, updated and existing processes are capable and robust per RBS APQP, PPAP & metallurgical requirements to ensure customer/RBS specifications are adhered to.

Collaborate to optimize in process QC inspection requirements to streamline production flow while maintaining product quality integrity.

Work closely with the engineering and operations teams to troubleshoot, optimize performance and implement process improvements in the machining and assembly production areas.

Assist with resolving process/production issues including corrective actions and helping to reduce / eliminate scrap and rework.

Collaborate on best practices for CNC programs, tooling selection and improving tooling life / minimize tooling costs.

Recommend, test, and justify tooling & fixtures to maximize machining process efficiencies.

Participate in the selection and justification of manufacturing capital expenditures / programs.

Create and modify plant layouts to optimize workflow and installation of new equipment.

Assist with the obsolete and excess inventory process to optimize repurposing of materials and parts to minimize scrap costs.

Assist with creating and updating process work instructions.

Collaborate with Maintenance on PM program for Machines.

Support efforts such as set-up reductions and tooling selection to maximize efficiencies.

Assist with internal audit process to support ISO 9001 compliance.

Perform risks assessments for equipment and impact to delivery.

Any/all other duties as assigned.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing/office environment. Must be able to operate a computer/keyboard, ability to use phone, and sit for extended periods of time. Communicate using speech, hearing, written, and vision skills. Will often be on the production floor requiring the use of safety equipment to include, but not limited to- safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel toed work boots or shoes. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. The standard working hours for exempt employees are set at 45 hours per week with an additional 30-minute lunch break every day. General business hours are 6:30 am- 5:00 pm. this position follows a specific work schedule of Monday through Friday, 7:00 am- 4:30 pm. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required to meet business demands.

Compensation

In addition to this base pay, Rockford Ball Screw employees are eligible for a bonus. Depending on your position you may be categorized into different tiers in the quarterly or annual bonus plan. Currently, this position is classified as a Quarterly Bonus within the Individual Contributor tier.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

Must be 18 years or older.

Bachelorâ s degree in engineering or equivalent combination of education and technical experience required.

3+ years in manufacturing

Experience with 3D CAD

Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings.

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience with Lean and continuous improvement

Experience with workstation design, assembly tools, fixtures, one-piece flow, supermarket sizing and Kanban pull.

Experience with through-feed grinding, roll forming, induction heat-treat, and CNC programing.
