The Medical Director will be responsible for the general operations of the medical department, programs, and services; work to ensure the provision of quality health care services within the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe's Medical Clinic. The Medical Director is the primary consultant for the medical department on strategic planning, implementing organizational change, training and collaborative problem solving. The Medical Director may also represent the Tribe and participate with other directors, Chief Executive Director and the Business Committee.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
Responsible to ensure the provision of quality health care services within the Tribe's Medical Clinic:
Provide direct medical care as appropriate.
Provide Primary Case load at half time.
Provide oversight, clinical consultation, and support to ND/ARNP/PA within the clinical setting.
Supervision of the medical support staff, including nursing, medical assistants, medical records, and registered dietician.
Manage staffing schedules, payroll, tribal medical events, monthly reports, quarterly peer reviews, and annual review of director supervisees, emergency drills, and other reporting as necessary.
Participate in LEHD executive meetings, to include managers' meeting, executive council, QA/QI, provider meeting, medical staff meeting.
Represent LEHD in meetings with other intra- and inter-tribal organizations to coordinate care, such as The House of Learning, Health and Safety, Disaster Management, IHS, NPAIHB.
Provide telephone consultation and support for the clinical staff if needed while off site.
Ensure participation by the clinic in outside organization meetings such as NextGen, active grants, and local medical providers
Assess and provide direction within the clinic to facilitate quality improvements, regarding staffing, systems development, technology capabilities, etc.
Provides oversite of medications dispensed in clinic to ensure safety and best practice. Overall medical direction to the Human Services Department and Tribe:
Participate in applicant interview meetings for filling medical clinic positions
Coordinate activities with other human services staff to facilitate intra-department planning, coordination, communications, and delivery of services;
Communicate health concerns and trends to facilitate pro-active problem solving;
Review and provide recommendation into design, remodel and expansion of the clinic facility, medical services and the future Wellness Campus External representation:
Within available time, represent the immediate and long term interests of the Tribe in expanding our role as a major provider of quality health care services;
To the extent possible, provide two ways communication about the health care needs within the greater Port Angeles community and surrounding areas and identify opportunities for the Tribe to meet critical needs consistent with the Tribe's goals. QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a school of Allopathic, Osteopathic or Naturopathic Medicine, and two years of postgraduate medical training
Must be board eligible or board certified in a medical specialty in the State of Washington;
Well-developed inter-personal skills;
Well-developed computer skills - spreadsheets, word processing, data bases, etc;
Written and oral communications skills at multiple educational levels;
Grant and/or contract management experience;
Excellent communication skills; both verbal and written
Background check to be conducted prior to employment date.
Must be able to comply with the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe Drug Free Workplace policies; and have UA testing done prior to hire date;
Must possess a Washington State driver's license. Knowledge, skills and abilities required by position:
Ability to recognize and respond to changing programmatic goals and adapt to changing priorities;
Knowledge and appreciation of inter-relationships and inter-relatedness between health services and other tribal programs;
Knowledge of Tribal programs at the State and Federal levels; PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to work in office setting, sitting for period of times; standing for several hours at a time or walking;
Must be able to use body members to work, move or carry objects or materials.
Must be able to exert up to 25-35 pounds occasionally; OTHER UNIQUE DUTIES AND REQUIREMENTS:
Requires the ability to communicate opening, concisely with the public and co-workers.
Requires compliance with all federal, state and local laws that pertain to carrying out the work to be performed under this agreement, including all applicable business licenses and taxes.
Must be able to travel to training, meetings, conferences, etc. to represent the Tribe.
