Essential Job Functions
Coordinates purchasing, stocking and replenishment within the financial constraints of the budget with an aim to procure the best product at the best prices while maintaining or improving the quality of items used keeping quality patient care at the forefront.
Maintains the hospital inventory of supplies and equipment including setting and monitoring stocking levels and reorder and replenishment functions.
Receives materials and equipment; inspects, accepts or holds for disposition goods delivered.
Designs, implements, manages, and monitors procurement reporting systems to meet company requirements.
Maintains appropriate documentation for all transactions; coordinates periodic inventories and ensures accuracy of inventory reports.
Coordinates and maintains the facility purchase order system.
Maintains facility item master in coordination with the Technology Services Department on an ongoing basis.
Monitors system processes to ensure accurate supplies and instruments for all Operating Room cases. Initiates action to correct problems and to facilitate delivery of services to the surgical areas.
Acts as a resource to staff and physicians regarding supply issues; facilitates positive communication and assessment and resolution of issues with those involved.
Develops a system to evaluate vendor quotations that utilizes appropriate negotiation and purchasing techniques to ensure quality, price, delivery, and service.
Recruits and maintains suppliers that provide high quality products and services at a better price while maintaining the highest code of ethics and conduct.
Demonstrates the spirit of the philosophy, mission, and values of the hospital through words and actions and implements them into departmental processes, programs, and the working environment.
Applies the principles and values of customer service and continuous quality improvement while performing day to day activities of the position.
Maintains and protects confidentiality regarding all aspects of patient care, personnel and strategic issues. Adheres to Confidentiality Policy.
Maintains positive working relationships and fosters cooperative work environment. Adheres to the hospital's Guidelines for Appropriate Conduct in the HR Manual.
Displays honesty and mutual respect when communicating with peers and other departments.
Follows through on problems that may compromise effective job performance by using appropriate chain of command.
Utilize concepts of age/developmental stages in interactions with patients and families.
Directs the functions of the assigned department in accordance with departmental policies, procedures and standards.
Reviews department policies, procedures, manuals, job descriptions, etc., at least annually, and participates in making recommended changes.
Interprets department policies and procedures to personnel, patients/family members, etc., as necessary.
Assists in cost containment development of the department within budgeted parameters.
Reviews and evaluates department's work force and make recommendations to the COO.
Evaluates employee performance, and makes recommendations to the COO.
Minimum Requirements
Education: High School diploma or its equivalent.
Certification, Licensure: Not applicable
Experience, Training, Knowledge: Two (2) to three (3) years experience in materials management or related field. Experience in healthcare/surgery preferred.
Physical Requirements
This position requires lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to thirty (30)- fifty (50) pounds in routine material handling, stocking and redistributions process. Arm, hand, wrist, finger coordination required in order to utilize a computer terminal with accuracy and speed to enter and obtain information on a daily basis. Must be able to hear, speak and see in order to provide service to customers and perform computer duties.
Working Conditions/Environmental Exposures
Environmental hazards such as chemicals, solvents, needles, needle containers, sharps, blood, body fluids, various infectious/communicable diseases, infectious medical waste, radiation, and/or radioactive materials and/or radioactive waste, proximity to moving mechanical parts. Protective clothing/equipment may be necessary.
