Job Description – Medical Assistant
We believe all patients are entitled to the highest level of medical care. The Certified Medical Assistant for the Valley Kidney Center performs a variety of healthcare screenings to assist providers in conducting quality care, including administering injections, phlebotomy, quality surveys, and various other procedures. As a Medical Assistant, you play a vital role in providing quality patient care and assisting healthcare professionals in various clinical and administrative tasks. Delivering exceptional customer service and maintaining established quality control standards.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Performs all duties within the scope of a Certified Medical Assistant (procedures, injections, phlebotomy).
• Perform basic laboratory tests such as urinalysis and blood glucose monitoring.
• Schedule patient appointments and manage patient records.
• Coordinates healthcare screening results as directed by providers, company standards, and policies.
• Provide patients with education on various health topics.
• Rooms patients according to company standards.
• Perform basic clinical tasks such as taking vital signs, recording patient medical history, and preparing patients for examinations.
• Arrives at clinic on time, up to 10 minutes early, and no more than 10 minutes late.
• Organizes clinic to ensure all equipment and supplies are on hand and set up in the exam rooms prior to receiving patients for screening appointments.
• Processes appropriate documents in an organized and accurate manner.
• Records patient care documentation in the medical records accurately and according to company policy.
• Conducts post audits on all information submitted to make sure information is complete and presented within the guidelines.
• Reviews all medical information, test results, and survey questions prior to the patient leaving to ensure all information is captured.
• Presents abnormal results to the provider promptly to ensure there is not an emergent condition that needs immediate attention.
• Post clinic preparation of charts for faxing, filing, and forwarding to the PCP offices.
• Coordinates with the providers and PCP offices.
• Maintains confidentiality of all materials handled within the clinic, as well as proper release of patient information.
• Maintains certifications (Medical Assistant and CPR) and quality control standards.
Required Qualifications:
• High school graduate or GED equivalent.
• Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or registration required within 180 days of employment hire date.
• Current BLS certification (written exam and in-person assessment) within 30 days of hire.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Basic computer literacy with basic knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook and EMR systems.
• Proven ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
• Proven good communication and customer service skills.
• Proven ability to be flexible and adaptable to change.
• A valid driver’s license within the state of work.
• Reliable transportation for daily travel.
• Tuberculosis screening
• Proof of immunity to Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis through lab confirmation of immunity.
• Influenza vaccination.
• COVID vaccination.
• Rotates to other departments to assist as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant program.
• 1+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant.
• 1+ years of related experience in a medical setting.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish)
Physical & Mental Requirements:
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to push or pull heavy objects using up to 100 pounds of force.
• Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
• Ability to use fine motor skills to operate equipment and/or machinery.
• Ability to receive and comprehend instructions verbally and/or in writing.
• Ability to use logical reasoning for simple and complex problem solving.
• Occasionally requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
