About the Opportunity

The Custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all individuals within our facilities. This position is essential in ensuring that all areas are kept in optimal condition, which directly impacts the well-being and comfort of our clients and staff. The Custodian will be responsible for performing a variety of cleaning and maintenance tasks, including vehicles, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines. By effectively managing janitorial duties, the Custodian contributes to the overall mission of creating safe, stable, and inclusive spaces for our young people and staff.. Ultimately, this role supports the organization's commitment to creating a healthy and inviting atmosphere for everyone who enters our facilities.

Core duties and responsibilities:

Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, dusting, vacuuming, cleaning ceiling vents, restroom cleaning, and sanitizing designated building areas of the facilities.

Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities

Perform heavy cleansing tasks and special projects

Buff and wax floors when necessary

Clean company vehicles inside and out

Power wash exterior of buildings

Pick up litter around campus

Change air filters and clean grills

Wash and clean windows and mirrors

Perform painting when instructed

Follow safety rules and regulations to ensure a safe working environment for all staff and clients.

Read and interpret cleaning schedules and instructions to complete tasks efficiently and effectively.

Assist in the setup and breakdown of events, ensuring that all areas are prepared and cleaned afterward.

Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel in a timely manner.

Additional duties as assigned

EQUIPMENT:

Riding vacuums/equipment and buffers

Carpet extractor, wet vac, and vacuum cleaners

Broom and dustpan, mop, bucket and wringers

Cleaning cart

Ladder

2-way radios

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to lift 25 pounds without assistance, 26+ pounds with manual or mechanical assistance

Ability to push/pull up to 25 pounds unassisted

Ability to walk, bend and/ or stoop frequently

Ability to climb a ladder

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED

Ability to follow oral and written instructions accurately.

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience in custodial and/or janitorial work.

Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery

Familiarity with safety protocols, cleaning chemicals, and supplies.

Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets

Integrity and ability to work independently
