Job Description

Must Haves:

• High school diploma or GED

• Minimum 6 months' experience performing venipunctures in a lab or hospital setting

• Experience with blood draws and urine specimen processing

• Ability to accurately collect, label, store, and prepare specimens according to established procedures

• Comfortable recording maintenance and decontamination data

• Strong communication skills and a patient-focused attitude

• Willingness to answer phone calls and relay lab results as needed

Plusses:

• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite

• General computer skills or comfort with laboratory information systems

Day to Day:

This role involves collecting and preparing blood, urine, and other specimens for testing while following proper protocols to ensure specimen integrity. The phlebotomist will clearly explain collection procedures to patients, demonstrate venipuncture techniques using straight or butterfly needles, and accurately match lab requisitions with specimen labels. Daily responsibilities include centrifuging, freezing, and packaging specimens, maintaining cleanliness and equipment data logs, answering patient inquiries, and supporting lab workflow as needed. Compliance with OSHA and other regulatory standards is required, along with attendance at routine department trainings.
