JOB DESCRIPTION
TECHNOLOGY ASSISTANT
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the I.T. Coordinator, the Technology Assistant provides essential support for both staff and patrons by maintaining library technology, responding to IT service tickets, and offering public tech help desk coverage. This role balances front-facing service with behind-the-scenes technical troubleshooting and maintenance to ensure reliable, well-supported technology across the building.
JOB DUTIES:
An employee in this position may be called upon regularly to do any or all of the following duties. These examples do not include all of the duties which the employee may be expected to perform.
Respond to and resolve IT service tickets as assigned by the IT Coordinator
Maintain library hardware and technology, including cleaning, restocking supplies, and basic troubleshooting
Assist staff with technology questions or issues across all departments
Provide public service support at technology help points, including assistance with personal devices, printing, maker equipment (3D printers, laser cutter, sewing machines, etc.), and common software (Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, etc.)
Support setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting of public meeting rooms and equipment
Assist with basic hardware replacement and routine software updates
Participate in the upkeep and organization of technology-related workspaces

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent
Strong customer service and communication skills
Attention to detail, reliability, and the ability to work independently
Familiarity with Windows operating systems, common productivity software, and mobile platforms
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working in a library or IT support role
Knowledge of basic AV equipment and public computing environments
Comfort with troubleshooting common technical problems
Self-motivation and ability to prioritize shifting tasks

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to utilize a variety of tools including vacuums, screwdrivers, and other tools requiring coordination, balance and clear sight. The employee is frequently required to work in areas that range from floor level to in-excess of eight feet. A ladder must be used on occasion to access light fixtures and other areas. The employee is required to communicate with others in person and on the telephone. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high places; airborne particles; and outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment can range from quiet to very loud, depending on the location of work and task being performed.
