Position Summary: AHIP is seeking an experienced, committed, and collaborative leader to set the vision and lead execution for security risk management. The Director of Security will be responsible for supporting AHIP’s mission by protecting its people, assets, and operations and coordinating with AHIP members. The Director will oversee the safety and security of all AHIP staff, physical offices, and events. Specifically, the Director will develop, implement, and/or mature key security functions, including but not limited to physical security operations, technical security, executive protection, travel security, event security, threat management, protective intelligence, business continuity, crisis management, security training awareness, and security investigations. While the ability to lead others is important to this role, AHIP is a mission-focused non-profit that expects every leader to be just as willing to “do” as they are willing to “lead.”The Director of Security will be a key advisor to AHIP’s leadership team and will lead the organization’s agenda on security matters. The Director will advise the CEO and the executive leadership team on security risks and will present strategies for managing security risks at the enterprise level.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Lead physical security for AHIP as an individual contributor, coordinating with internal partners and managing external vendors and resources.

Clarify and assign security roles and responsibilities for key leaders and stakeholders.

Ensure close alignment and coordination with key partners such as information technology and cybersecurity.

Design a long-term security strategy and prioritize resource needs, such as technologies, tools, and services.

Develop training and awareness campaigns to build a culture of security at AHIP, including emergency response training and exercises for all AHIP staff.

Develop a risk-based strategy for the protection of AHIP’s employees and physical spaces.

Evaluate, select, and manage key vendors, including security guards, protective services, security technology integrators, and others, and hold them accountable to documented standards and agreements.

Develop and implement the strategy, governance, and execution of physical security operations, technical security, executive protection, travel security, event security, threat management, protective intelligence, business continuity, crisis management, security training and awareness, and security investigations.

Lead end-to-end event security planning for all AHIP events using a repeatable approach to assessing risk and developing event-specific security plans.

Ensure close coordination across all internal stakeholders and with relevant external stakeholders, such as venue security and law enforcement.

Establish qualitative and quantitative metrics to measure the maturity and impact of the security function.

Serve as the incident commander and crisis manager for security-related incidents at AHIP.

Develop and maintain a security culture that is consistent with AHIP’s values and brings out the best in people, allowing them to perform at the highest possible level.

Network, establish and maintain partnerships with industry, academia, civilsociety organizations, government, AHIP members, and other key stakeholders/influencers.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.

Advanced degree (MA, JD) preferred.

ASIS International Certified Protection Professional preferred.

DRI Certified Business Continuity Professional preferred.

A minimum of fifteen years of experience, including progressively responsible management experience, specifically in law enforcement, national security, homeland security, corporate security, intelligence, or analysis, and program/project management.

Have worked in or closely with the trade associations, healthcare, insurance, or other relevant industries.

Experience building security programs and managing budgets in non-profits or the private sector.

Experience developing business strategies and advocating for security needs to non-security executives and leaders.

Experience working in federated and/or decentralized organizational structures.

Other Qualifications

Significant familiarity and experience with security, law enforcement, and threat trends.

Ability to develop and execute a proactive security posture and to oversee research, program, and training in support of AHIP’s mission.

Exemplary ability to communicate with experts and senior-level leaders, both within AHIP and externally.

Highly effective public speaking skills.

Excellent organizational communication, program management, and project management skills.

Must be willing to travel and represent AHIP.

Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
